The clutch has gone on my 2008 yaris (16500 miles). I had it recovered to the toyota dealer where I bought it 18 months ago. It's not 3 till next month so I think it should still be under warranty but they say they will look at it and decide if it is a warranty repair or due to bad driving! Somehow I think we're going to have an arguement but now they've got the car and it's not driveable I can't take it elsewhere if they won't repair under warranty.

    Advice please.

In my experience, Toyota dealers tend to be an honest bunch, so I wouldn't worry too much.

its probably your driving style. I have never had to replace a clutch in any of my cars and have had them for over 100k miles each. (i get rid after ive covered 100k)

Or, there could be something wrong with the clutch.

Used to work for a company supplying them, and buying in from the Japanese.
I found they were about as reliable as anything else, but they maintained their reputation by denying any faults, ever.

Sorry, but that is nonsense. Have you any proof of this?

    :rotfl::rotfl:

You post up proof I didn't first.

They're as good as others, but nothing special as a company. They never lose face, and never admit they have made a mistake.
It doesn't mean they don't though, it means the op has to deal with them knowing that.

There's been quite a few Yaris clutch problems,

op, what are the symptoms of the fault, and what sort of gearbox is it?

That means there is a certain number of miles, even outside the warranty period, you can expect before needing a new part.

    Rubbish !.............

    Really, where is this documented?

I've had enough arguments with Toyota being "perfect".
If your advice to the op is to take the car in, believe what they say implicitly, accept the diagnosis with no further investigation, that's your advice to them.
Mine is to treat the dealer as being slightly more biased, keep the parts removed, and to get a second independent opinion if required. Same as any other car dealer.

The op can decide what to do with the conflicting advice.

They left a message at 3pm (they'd only had the car from 11 a.m) to say it would be repaired and available to collect by the end of today UNDER WARRANTY. So at the moment I'm in the toyota are perfect camp.
  • Excellent Mrs T, seems Toyota can be trusted to do the right thing, as usual.
