I wish there was a mast nearer to my home. The reception here is shocking.

Thanks all, well I just don't know whether to believe the 'scare' stories or if they're not, but I agree with people asking themselves the same question when we come to sell.

I think you'd probably just see it from the upstairs front windows as it's hidden behind other bigger houses when at ground level but you see it very clearly when you drive around the small estate.

We haven't yet viewed the house for this reason so will discuss with hubby tonight. Thanks for all the input (and yes, it'll be nice to get a strong signal seeing as we get none inside our current property!)

there is an orange mast on the road out of my village, and the signal is still shocking!

Does the asking price reflect the fact it's so near to the mast?

I wouldn't suggest so, no but I used to work for the EA so might have to ask!

I am not saying mobile masts are dangerous and I am not saying they are safe but I will relay an experience I observed when I was in the Army.

I was a unit signaller and we had vehicle borne (landrover) HF sets. High Frequency that went by the name of Larkspur. In order to power these the vehicles were fitted with some impressive portable generators.
We were always told to stay away from the antenna's when the radio was transmitting. On one occasion I saw a chap get a burn which needed treatment when he grabbed an aerial to keep his balance whilst scrimming up a landrover.

I was told but never witnessed the fact that it was possible to heat food if placed at a set distance on the ground between three 30 metre masts there were transmitting with these sets.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larkspur_radio_system

In its day (not when I used it as the transition to Clansman had started) this kit was cutting edge and it was possible with the correct aerial configurations (skywave, 30 metre masts etc) it was possible to send a radio signal half way around the globe.

It should be noted that mobile phones transmit/receive at different frequencies and of course they run from small batteries. However almost every mast site I have seen has some sort of high voltage generating kit alongside it.

Clearly there is a hell of a lot of money invested in the technology so if there really was a problem our Government would tell us wouldn't they?

I don't think it would even occur to me to worry about this. Apparently, mobile phone masts in urban areas can be as close together as 400-800m apart, and that's without taking into account that there'll be separate networks for O2, Orange, Vodafone etc. You'd be ruling out a lot of the country if you ruled out every house within walking distance of a phone mast.

Also, do you have wi-fi? How many of the houses in your street do? Are you going to worry about that as well? I haven't seen any evidence from a reputable source that shows a health risk from either mobile phones or wi-fi, so I'm just going to get on with living in the modern world.

Yep, you need to check its the right network first of all before buying the place. If the mast is Voda and you're on Orange then its not going to be a lot of use. 500ft is a fair distance and there are LOTS of houses that are far closer than that. You'd be very surprised how many masts are out there that you don't always see. You can check locations on here

    http://www.sitefinder.ofcom.org.uk/

We have 18 masts in our locality. That would render almost every house unsaleable if you took the 500m radius out from every mast.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
