When I discuss the figures on the phone with them, there is absolutely no flexibility - they will take want they eant to take

Anytime I have wanted to discuss direct debits with Eon, I have gone on armed with the actual usage figures for the past year. Using the comparison sites I am able to work out exactly what that would cost and then divide by 12.

If it's way out I have always found them happy to go along with my figures.

Which is why I asked as Eon don't have a fixed price tariff ending in August that I'm aware of.

I can't see where it says its a fixed tariff. For what its worth I'm on a variable E.On tariff ending in August (SaveOnline 2), so it might be that one.

It wasn't really a fixed tariff I was considering either - that was in answer to another poster who talked about being tied in to a fixed tariff.

I was just wondering why the OP felt they had signed a 12 month agreement as gas & electricity tariffs don't usually tie you in for a fixed period unless it happens to be a fixed tariff with a cancellation fee.

Sorry all, been away revising for an exam...

The tariff is saveonline2, not fixed price but £30 exit fee if leaving within 12 months (or at least I think it is) - I'm sure when we signed up a few suppliers had started to do this.

Regardless of that, my point is still that I have supplied them with usage figures that we are well under yet they still want to increase the DD to build up a credit I don't feel is necessary so long as over 12 months (not their choice of which 12 months) the balance comes back to zero. If they don't want to believe my usage figures then they shouldn't ask for them, and if they want a big credit building up before winter they should say so from the start - I had no such credit built up before last winter.

I'm really annoyed about it, and will definitely be leaving come August!!

That's just the thing I did, I had the originally provided figures and the YTD figures which showed that to go over I would have to use more energy over summer than in winter.

The really annoying thing is that they agreed with my argument but couldn't do anything about it as they are working to zero balance by May 2012 on usage figures well below what I supplied!

Just trying to find out what charges (if any) for leaving before August. Sure I read somewhere that you lose discounts on final bill....

It's frustrating that they won't even listen to a reasoned and backed up argument - they said I could pay the debit balance off now and they'd reduce the DD, but isn't that massively missing the point of DD's? They should make it clear from the start that you need to build up a credit balance, in which case they'd have took a massive payment off us in August last year to cover the winter!!

    Confused!

It does not matter if your argument is reasoned if the bases are different. The zero point is in May. Your anniversary date is irrelevant.

The zero point has been May for many suppliers for many years. It is clear from the start for most customers.

And why are several posters complaining about inflexibility? Surely this is a good thing. Sometimes jobsworths are good. Everyone being treated the same is good news. Or do you really think that bolshie moaners should be granted different terms?

If there is unreason or questions about a policy then voice them. But do not complain that they are forcefully enforced.

Yes Kim but that's the point I'm making, why not just up the direct debit to work to zero balance by May from the outset? Would it be that the direct debit might therefore have to be set higher and put people off joining, and defeat the purpose of spreading payments over a year from joining.
If they work to May then they should make my direct debit work to May from day 1, and what's the point in giving my usage figures. And it wasn't clear to me at any point until now, they shouldn't be basing my payments from August if they mean May. Simple really.
I don't think anyone's being a bolshie moaner for having the intelligence to be able to work out that this isn't quite right, but good for you that you're rich and want to lend people your money needlessly!

    Hi jmcdyre

Saveonline 2 ends on 31 August 2011. There's no cancellation fee with this tariff.

Also, I can confirm, we don't give discount on final bills following a change of supplier.

However, if the change completes after the contract end date, you'll receive all of the discount applicable to Saveonline 2 even if part of this falls within the final bill. This is because you will have completed the full term of the contract.

Hope this is useful jmcdyre. Give me a shout if you're still unsure as will be happy to help.
