All the time, and there to surf all websites known to man, making a list of those which have 'blind deals'?

(you can get programmes that vocalise website content too, but they are really expensive, and not many people have access to them)

As I said nice idea, but in reality...

That does not surprise me ... their Chester store is TINY and a real pain to move around in (being partially sighted myself!). Personally I find it very stressful and a pain to go to that store but their prices can be damn cheap.

I too have RP and currently need bigger and bigger TVs each time I upgrade to make up for the vision loss during those couple of years between upgrades ... So I would not be too cynical about "blind" people walking out of Richer Sounds with 42" plasmas!!! Though personally I would need assistance from a friend if I decided to do this.

Remember "blind" people who register blind are not all totally blind as I think thats relatively rare (under 10% I think... could be wrong on that). I always cracks me up on the rare occasion someone approaches me and questions why I am purchasing a newspaper when I am using a white stick!! I usually take it home and read it using a magnifying glass.

As for blind people using the internet there is a way for the totally blind to use the internet using specialised speech software like Jaws and/or braille tablets though obviously they don't find it easy to use the internet.

And finally "calm down" no need to get hot headed over this issue. At the end of the day all companies are out to make a buck so if this whole free delivery for the blind thing is a cynical PR exercise at least a few people who have genuine difficulties are getting something extra. Your mission should be to tell as many blind/partially sighted people about this offer especially the older ones who may not be so internet savvy. I would also add that you could argue quite easily that this offer should be perhaps extended to any1 who is a holder of a blue disabled badge to get one you must have genuine mobility problems.

Ok time to get off my soapbox.

My aunt gets this a lot too. She went to a 'blind club' and got verbally abused for using a full cane instead of the symbol cane (she is partially sighted) - some kind of blind faux pas apparently!

    What a load of B*ll*cks !
My sister uses a wheelchair and finds shops like Richer sounds quite difficult to negiotiate - the local one is very small and packed full of stuff. To get something delivered free to avoid having the hassle and inconvenience of having to be accompanied to the shop for help is great.
And while I'm at it - how exactly do you expect a wheelchair user to carry a big box back to their car?

Good on Richer Sounds we say!

If most disabled people could do something for themselves they would - a little helping hand (a good marketing ploy or not) should be applauded not critcised.
Those moaning about it should spend a day in a wheelchair and see how they feel afterwards!

Also just had a quick look on their home page and it doesn't say anything in big flashing letters about the delivery waiver - not exactly very good marketing if intended as such would you say?

I think it's great of richer sounds - they really do look after their customers. As for using a website when blind - accessibility is an important part of web design - making websites suitable for screen readers, that can assist a partially sighted person to use the site.
