but landlord credit checks arent credit checks are they? they are just checks to clarify address and associates? i thought there wsa information on here recently that landlords checks are not the same as when banks do credit checks.0

Its just like a couple wanting to move to a property, and the guy saying, As I am the one paying all the rent, I just want myself to be on the tenancy, it don't work like that.
Actually, if the other spouse does not work and has 0 income it makes no difference to the landlord.
For a landlord the point of having someone down as a tenant is to be able to go after him for money in case of rent unpaid or damages. But in general, Everyone over 18 working or not should be referenced and be on the Tenancy agreement.
In general, why?but landlord credit checks arent credit checks are they? they are just checks to clarify address and associates?
No, they do check for credit history.0 -
JJlandlord: you are picking on words now then, take away 'in general'.

well there was information on here recently that landlords cant have access to the checks that banks and lenders get?0

When my then boyfriend moved into my flat, he was a 'permitted occupier' named on the tenancy but not a tenant and not responsible for paying the rent (even though he was over 18 and had a job). The agents and I agreed that there was no need for credit checks etc when my salary could cover the rent, even though we did actually split it.
As tbs624 has pointed out, it would be silly to credit check a young person who is still in education and has no income. All the landlord needs is someone they can run after if the rent is not paid and they've got that in the OP.0 -

As I had said earlier, everything is at the discretion of the landlord/agent0
