I guess my feeling is why would a retailer be happy to put those kinds of tags on a baby garment? I dunno, I think that's the point I can't get my head around - that in their response they're pretty much happy to continue doing it and they'll take their chances.

Because there are some dishonest people around who will steal anything that isn't bolted down.

the shop puts the tags on for a reason which is so they dont go walk abouts, all shops put tags on clothing, supermarkets do it with high value alcohol

what more was you expecting ?

why not accept the vouchers and just move on

See the post above yours for my thinking on it.

As you've seen it's a policy that can cause problems but blame the thieving gits who steal baby clothes.

Yeah I know that. Like I say it's more about the pins in the tags rather than the tags themselves, of course I realise they need to protect their stock against the undesirables of our society.

My friend was trying on some jeans in a shop the other day. The tag had become detached from its pin, leaving the pin still in the trousers. He pulled them on and scratched his winky. Ouch.

    Painful!

Thanks for your responses anyway, it's good to get some perspective on it.

They've basically said sorry, we'll try not to have it happen again and offered me some vouchers.

I actually haven't got a compo head on about it, I'd just rather there wasn't a 'next time'. Feel like if I accept vouchers I'll basically be saying it's ok for them to put these tags in baby/childrens clothes with the possibility of this happening again, perhaps worse next time.

Like I say though, looking for opinions to gauge against.

I think their reaction is fair and reasonable.

I think your expectation of some sort of complete system change, isn't reasonable or realistic.

These tags are a reasonable response to deal with the possibility of theft, they work well in most cases.

Your issue isn't with the actual tags themselves but the carelessness of the employee who didn't remove it properly.

The company response to the issue is fair and they will highlight the importance of taking care when removing the tags with their employees.

I think it would be unreasonable to expect anything else. All just my opinion of course. :)

Maybe you're right, maybe it's a lesson for us to double check things and just count it as a near-miss.

The best bet is to contact trading standards. They are the department who would have jurisdiction over incidents like these.

There are much safer tags that could be used, ones that would negate the possibility of a half inch pin being left in the clothing.
