I remember hearing last year about a 6th form near me that recommended all students take the p plates off their cars as they had a rather high number of students have people slamming the brakes on in front of them. They are just a target for insurance fraudsters.
    Ditch them.[/QUOTE]

That's a valid point to ditch the P's! I hadn't even thought of people reacting like.

I would chuck them away, I never bothered with them. It's bad enough having L plates on my bike, they're a real red rag to the numptys but I wouldn't have optionally put P plates on.

OP say in 5 years time and you decide to drive somewhere where you've never been before. Such as me driving from the north east down to wembley which I've done twice in the past 2 years, are you going to use the P plates then? I don't think you need them at all.

Hi King_Nothing, thanks for the reply. In 5 years time, I do hope that my confidence will have grown and P Plates and driving nerves are just a distant memory lol. Well done on driving to Wembley, I cant imagine what its like to drive in London!

If I'm doing the speed limit and someone charges up behind me I just carry on. Of course if I come up behind someone who is doing the speed limit when I'm in a hurry that's a different matter..........

LOL I do actually live in Hampshire........

I sympathise. I'm currently learning to drive and actually think I'm beetling about quite well, but in my last lesson this absolute nobhead was RIGHT up behind me effing and jeffing in my mirror because I was doing 35 on a 40 road. I've only had three bloody lessons! As he overtook he beeped and stuck his fingers up.

Big man. Big man in a CHEAP CAR.

:rotfl:effing and jeffing! I know what you mean, when I was learning there was an incident and even my instructor, a very lovely calm man, lost it and called the other driver a "W"

I think like my episode, it's all part of the learning to drive experience. I remember thinking on my first lesson, just going through a local residential area, that 20mph was so fast! Now doing 30mph on the same roads, feels like I could get out and walk quicker!

Good luck with your driving and thanks for the reply.

Do you know, I've got no clue where on Earth I heard effing and jeffing but I love it!

It seems like everyone but me did a sensible first lesson - I was away through the centre of Newcastle, over major roundabouts, onto a dual carriageway - and I'd never sat behind the wheel before. But it's made me learn quickly and a lot more confident, and my instructor is just terrific.

ANYWAY. Wishing you luck with your driving too - don't let them get to you!

  • I passed my driving test in July 2009, over two years ago. but due to money I havn't been able to drive since, now I'm having to relearn so will need p plates as L plates would be illegal.
