SIMcard size

Hi,

My mobile is ancient and uses a credit-card sized SIMcard. But suddenly I have a yen for a new bit of kit.

Is there any way to get that Vodafone number (which I've had for 10 years and don't want to give up) off the credit card and onto a modern teeny-tiny SIMcard?

Is that something a high-street Vodafone shop could do? Or could I simply cut away the excess plastic around the actual chip to craft a modern-sized card from the old? Would it work in a modern phone or have SIMcard innards altered significantly over the years?

Thanks in advance.

Im not sure if you could cut it up and itll work but you can keep your number. Maybe vodafone can do it but you could find a nice deal else where and get your PAC code from voda and move your number to a new number. Your first port of call is to contact voda and see what they can do. Hth

You can cut the sim down, use the one that comes with the new phone as a template (done that one) but it may not be fully compatible with the new phone. Alternatively phone CS and they will transfer the number to the new sim, have the new sim to hand when you phone.

If your looking to swap networks as well then all you would need is the PAC code and the number would follow you otherwise if you just call vodafone up and give them the serial number on the sim they can transfer your number to a current standard sim.

Thanks for your answers, people. I've clicked your thankyou buttons.

ps. Matelot - I've just bought a book called "Jackspeak - a guide to British Naval Slang & Usage" for my Uncle's birthday. He spent many years at sea, firstly in the Navy in WWII, then in the Merchant Marine, rising to Captain. Might bring back some memories for him - he's 85 now.
