How much should I expect to pay for a monitored alarm system including panic/health

I may have done something stupid, signed up for 5 years Friday with
http://www.bulldog-securityltd.co.uk/ for a monitored burglar alarm plus panic button. They installed it Saturday. I may have lost my cooling off period but I gave them a check dated tomorrow and yesterday when I told them I couldn't get the money into the account they agreed to shred it and said I could pay by credit card Wednesday. Presuming that actually happens, I should be protected, but how much should I be paying with a reputable company?
Thanks
Doug

Is there any way to find out how long they've been trading? This thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3103372 has me particularly worried.

You can check them out at Companies House. This will give you details of how long they have been trading, [plus you can find out if the Directors are associated with any other companies.

Can't help thinking its all going to end in tears.

So how much did you actually pay for this alarm system? Did you buy this system from them because they knocked on your door (or called you) offering a free 'security survey' of your property??

Your credit card will only cover you if the company goes pear shaped and fail to install / supply the product / service. It doesn't cover being over charged. There isn't a 'Crass Stupidity' clause in the Consumer Credit Act.

you can buy a phone for about 50 quid that has a panic button and informs family, friends or whatever.
theres no need for any fancy set up and a five yr contract.
    Get some gorm.

Only if your mobile connection is good, that definitely wouldn't work here. And of course you need nearby family & friends. Nope, we'd need a panic button that works in the garden and if keyholders aren't available sends someone around.

try your local council or age concern for a free panic button phone system with a neck pendant/button.

Age Concern charges for those, as does Saga, etc. My council doesn't supply them either. That doesn't mean I'm not considering them as an option.
