Oh, and the lady in question was supposed to be doing a 'back to work' interview (perhaps that's not the right term - I had to go in with my CV so she could help me with job searching) but when she agreed to sign for me on Thursday she cancelled the session I was there for and said she'd send me a new appointment for next week.

I wonder how she'll explain that to her superiors?

When both my partner were on jsa we had an interview during both our times and they said it was fine to re-arrange for later , as afterall , isn't it their Target to get people to better themselves by finding work or further education.

Have you tried going in with tracksuit trousers tucked into socks , medallion around your neck and talk like you've just learned your first word only a min earlier ? They get highly respected in jc circles

Right. Went in and the lady I was looking for had the afternoon off. Spoke to a manager, showed her my documentary evidence of why I was unable to sign on my usual day and I explained what happened with the advisor I spoke to last week. She went off and found the book I signed and brought it back. The advisor HAD counter-signed it last week but on my sign-on day she had updated my claim to say 'Claim not pursued'. The manager said not to worry as my claim hasn't been closed. She said it looks like it's just a mistake and asked me to come back in the morning when the advisor in question will be back in work so she can sort it all out.

So fingers crossed it should be ok. Will post here again tomorrow to let you know.

All sorted. I spoke to her this morning and she apologised. She said it slipped her mind on Thursday, she doesn't work on Friday and she sorted it out this morning before I came in.

    PHEW.

surely JC staff do not sign people on though?

If you are away, in the UK for up to two weeks then providing you go in beforehand and fill in a form or other you can be excused from signing - so the graduation should have been treated like a holiday...

Apparently they can exercise discretion. I wasn't expecting to be paid for the 2 days I was away from home but as I was still in the UK it wasn't classed as a holiday. I was still actively looking for work while I was away from home.

If you are away from home in the UK and looking for work they can arrange for you to go into a jobcentre there and sign via fax
