Son going travelling ... options for money

My son is going travelling starting out in Thialand, what is the best way for him to take money, he dosent want to take cash for obvious reasons, we have been told there is a pre pay card he could use, does anyone know of these and if so how easy are they to use?

Travelex Cash Passport Globe is a good start, though it may be that it may only be topped up from his card or account. So in emergencies, you may have to send cash to his account in order for him to top up or you should have access to his account whilst he is away.

For Thailand, most cashpoints charge a further £3+ per withdrawal, so it's not a bad idea to have some cash and TCs in £s at hand, as the only ones that don't charge this fee(AEON) are few and far between.

He should also take a credit card for purchases, as it gives him some protection against fraud. Not too pleasant if someone clones your card and steals all the money in the account.

I use debit for cash withdrawals and credit for purchases/hotels etc.

They were talking on 'moneybox' on the radio that the post office have one of those pre-loaded cards which is a good as regards cost.

They did have - but unless it's very recently been relaunched it's not currently available

Whatever it is, it is unlikely to be better than the Travelex Cash Passport Globe. I wouldn't bother to hold your breath....
