Funny you should say that. I actually do live on top of a funeral directors
And no, bands playing is not a regular occurrence. It happened once at Christmas. It's not a huge shopping centre, a newsagent, small supermarket, few tat shops, cafe etc, probably about 15 businesses in all.
It's usually quite quiet out there. No-one flogging stuff in the street etc. When I moved here I was already very familiar with the area to know it was always quiet enough to live here happily.
However, on a Sunday when the shops are closed and the streets are empty, it's pretty irritating when there's some genius outside of my window with an amplifier and a bass guitar. They hadn't been given permission to play there (I asked the council) but as they were just random preachers, no action could be taken in hindsight.
And I won't lie, it irritated me slightly that they were preaching, butif they were doing it quietly, I'd have been happy enough. It was the fact that the guy had a bass and an amplifier on full blast that annoyed me. I don't like it when I can't put my son down for his afternoon nap because the bass is making the house vibrate and disturbing him, an when I turn my TV up, I can still only hear/feel the thump thump thump from the darn bass.
Surely there has to be a limit on what they can do considering that tree are residential properties above every shop?
And yet upon being asked politely to "please be quiet as you're disturbing us" we were ignored as they "had a message to preach."
Yeah, in an hour I saw the two Muslim guys who own the shop going outside for a breath of fresh air, and about 5 teenagers who told the preachers to "f**k off" before running off.
Why can't they just do their thing quietly?0 -
Surely they have had bands playing in the shopping centre before, if so did you object then
when you moved in did you not think of the noise of bands playing
We had the Salvation Army band playing once, it was the week before Christmas, and I didn't object as the centre was busy, and it was in the afternoon before the Christmas lights turn on. As I say, no issue if there's a point and an audience.
There is a man who occasionally has a merry go toys down there. My neighbour and I politely asked if he could turn the music down to a decent level, and he did. It was still loud, but could be drowned out by the TV or closing the windows, but was still loud enough for the kids to enjoyseemed a fair compromise.
