New ISP advice please

Options
I want to find a new ISP who will let me pay a monthly fee of under £10 for any time internet access of about 40-50 hours per month. I was paying Virgin £13.50 pm but my usage is low so I thought I could save a bit of money. I found DMC dial and tried to get in touch with them by email and phone but they have failed to respond. I've found JJTEK who offer £8.99 pm for up to 50 hours (first month £0.99) but I've never heard of them. Anyone got any suggestions?

    Hi,

JJtek are ok - a family member used them for years. Very rarely any problems.

    There are many others.

There's a good website to help you choose. http://www.ispreview.co.uk/list.shtml

    Hope that helps.

  • Can't understand why anyone would still want Dialup, assuming broadband available, when you can get Broadband from £11.75 (512)from Metronet. Whilst you are not charged for time online you only pay for usage after 200meg.See charges http://www.metronet.co.uk/adsl/paygo. Service excellent and C.Service also.Gets very good review on above site also.

Reading the wealth of info on this site, can be quite confusing as each and everyone has their own tale to tell. Mine is this:

Wanadoo (with no problems) charge me £14.99 for dial up. Searching through www.ispreview.co.uk, I decided that www.naims.co.uk (another previously unheard of isp) would offer a package for £9.99 (£60 yr saving), I admit there is a slight restriction of 42 hrs a WEEK. Personally I'd find it difficult to be online 6 hrs a day everyday. So I went for them. Customer Service rand me at 6pm as agreed, to talk me through a problem, (self inflicted).

So, another isp to add to the confusion, hopefull you will soon be sorted.

I second Alared. Fast 4 for this price is excellent. If you read the "sticky" FAST4 CONNECTION DIARY2, you will see that there are occasional problems, but during the daytime, excellent!. ;)

Got to come back in on this.

I wasn't keen to 'big up' my ISP - (Giointernet) as I noticed they got slated in the IspReview link I gave earlier! However, I have been with them for years. They have always been one of the cheapest and yes they have had some problems - but to be honest, I've not really had any probs connecting and I have another back-up dial-up account with another provider to use in emergencies.

At the moment I'm on their £50 for a year anytime 24/7 deal which they offered by email to their current customers last May as a limited deal. I'm so glad I took them up on it and don't know what I'll do when it runs out in May this year...! Hope they do it again. I would recommend taking them up on it if they ever offer it again. Don't know of anyone cheaper than that!

I for one don't really need broadband although I use the internet a lot. I can wait until the price comes down to compete with dial up. Unless I want to start downloading movies or huge amounts of music I don't really see the point of the extra expense!
