Older cats sometimes get acute flareups of ongoing chronic arthritis conditions - often after a fall or fight or similar. That would explain why last year it got better quickly on the painkiller. An anti-inflammatory jab and some metacam will soon help control if so.

Vet would normally be able to have a good guess at this though by articulating the back legs and feeling for any bilateral difference in muscle mass, so surprised it wasn't picked up before if this is what is going on.

    Hi Everyone

Am resurrecting this thread - unfortunately my little one is showing these symptoms again, it's been 16 months, I could take her to the emergency vet but I guess they won't be able to do anything much more than they will tomorrow morning:(

Same thing exactly, dragging right back leg, not eating or drinking, no energy, sad to see her like this:(
