How to disconnect oven/grill hobs

Basically, I live with 3 other guys and one of us grills almost every minute. He grills sliced bread even. I have tried to tell him that the electricity we consume as 4 single guys is too much.

I have decided to disconnect the grill/oven, please how do I go about this? I have already removed the connectors to the element, but surprising he switched to fan oven.

If I remove the simmerstats, will the ovens stop working or what else can I do?

there is a good chance its on its own feed from the fuse box, removing the fuse there or turning it of may suffice

could always claim its faulty as "the fuse keeps tripping"

Seems a little mean to stop him making toast. I'd say grilling is a reasonable way to cook. Buy a toaster? Or a George Foreman type grill?

If you are one of four people in the house, do you have the right to make the decision.

Perhaps if you talk to your housemates you could all chuck in £1.25 each to buy a cheap toaster £5 at Asda, Tesco etc.

  • We have a toaster. He prefers putting everything in the grill.

Maybe time to find someone else to share with you, or a least drop hints that you may be doing.

As a PP has said fuse box/tripswitch or if is hardwired there should be a fuse in the switch on the wall.

OK he does toast but how else are you going to cook if you turn the oven/grill off?

Our 1/2 slice toaster is 1KW. Pretty sure our grill isn't much more. OK it may take a little longer, raise the shelf, but there probably isn't much in it.

You can't do cheese on toast in a toaster.;)

Does he clean the grill afterwards? If not, disconnect!

What if he gets a repair person in to fix the vandalism you are carrying out? Who's paying?
