Best value mobile phone

Well, my adoring wife just washed my iPhone 4, sigh..

Ok, so I need to replace it. These are my wants:
  • Dont want a long contract, 12 months tops
  • Dont want to pay more than £20 a month
  • not fussed about a massive internet data allowance
  • not fussed about operating system
  • cheap to buy or fully subsidised - not dropping another £300 on a phone at the moment, whilst I'm still tied into my iPhone

Anyone have decent suggestions? Appreciate I've used the iOS for the last 2 or 3 models but I have no particular affinity with staying on that. Also not a massive mobile internet surfer, although I use it a bit day-to-day and I do occasionally use some apps.

Thanks!

Talkmobile have £20/month 12-month contracts on their "never pay for the internet" unlimited data smartphone tariff.

Go to CEX (computer games exhange) they sell used mobile phones at great prices.

Really? The ones near me are completely over the odds in their pricing, a real ripoff.

Go to https://www.billmonitor.com, shove in the details of your old phone number and service, it'll analyse the bills and come up with the best tarrif based on your usage and what phone/deal you want.

It makes more sense to buy an inexpensive PAYG or sim-free phone rather than to pay for two contracts at the same time.
