I've been using an O2 dongle for the past 6 months. I need to put on £15 a month which I use a top up voucher and I get 3gb. (I'm sure they changed it to 2gb a few months back for new users).

I paid £25 for it which gave me one month included in that price and then £15 per month. Reception is good for me. I had a 20gb connection before this but as I only use it every now and again, it works for me. Hope that helps ....

See if you can borrow someone's dongle to check the reception. They are usually poor inside unless you live close to a transmitter. Any PAYG dongle with good reception will be fine.

    For mobile broadband:

Go to Site Finder, click on the map and pop the relevant postcode in the box.
A map should appear, hopefully with some blue triangles.

You'll need to click on each of the blue triangles in turn, reading the details.
What you are looking for are UMTS masts under 'type of transmission' within 500 metres of the place of intended usage and the name of the operator.

This will give you an idea as to who is the most suitable provider for your location. Further to that, go to the website of the network and check their coverage map.
You can then decide on the package best suited to your usage.

It's not just a matter of buying a dongle and then hoping for the best.

3 is the best value, especially as you can find good value data SIMs on eBay.

3 is cheap, but so is the signal
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Im sure ofcom and many 3 customers would disagree.. there was a report recently and 3 came out top of the pile out of all the networks.. :rotfl:
The 3 signal is crap argument is so outdated and stemsback to when the network was first getting setup.

but then a report saying its got the best 3g network isnt any good if you live in a blackspot, but chances are if you cant get a decent signal on 3 then its highly likely you wont be able to get one on any of the other networks..

I live aroud 2 miles from the local mast and get pretty good speeds, on a really bad day I get 1mb+ on a excellent day i get 5mb+ most people with landline broadband would struggle to get such speeds being a couple of miles from the exchange.

There are alot of benefits to mobile broadband over a landline based service, costs are similar, 3 do 15gb for £15, on the cheap landline broadband at a similar price its usually capped at 10gb..
No line install fees when moving, a god send to us renters, no having to buy out contracts when you come to move, you can use it when your out and about, no having outages when the local exchange or your line plays silly !!!!!!s, just lookat that huge one recently which took out hundreds of thousands of lines , no having to pay high wifi costs when in hotels and stuff.. I could go on :rotfl:

My speedsjust ow on a rather average day..

Try to write in English. Remember that people have to read and try to understand what you write.

If you want an unlocked dongle, you can get one here for £14. Though it's an old style 3.6 Mbps download speed and 384kbps Upload.
