Should I remove older versions of Java?
We highly recommend users remove all older versions of Java from your system.
Keeping old and unsupported versions of Java on your system presents a serious security risk.
Removing older versions of Java from your system ensures that Java applications will run with the most up-to-date security and performance improvements on your system.

And additionally, do you know you actually need Java? The only things I've come across recently which need Java are Open Office / Libre Office, and one of the ThinkBroadband speed testers...0 -
If you right click the taskbar, click task manager, click processes, none of the .net versions should be running unless a programme is using it
If you uninstall any versions, a programme will let you know if it needs it0 -
I would say that there are more and newer programs using the various versions of the Microsoft .NET Framework (and, yes, they are different) than use Java. So I personally would keep them, since Windows Update is very keen on installing them, and updates to the updates.0

Thanks very much for that. And you Santer0 -
I use JavaRa to delete older versions of Java. It can remove other bits of Java if not wanted (e.g. auto-update, log files etc)0
