Unlimited texts on Orange

My son is currently on a Sim only monthly contract with Orange, as part of that he gets 3000 texts a month and every month is going over this limit (I know, it is unbelievable that he manages to sleep for 8 hours a day, go to college for 6, and still has time to send that amount of texts!)

I spoke to Orange and they said that their fair usage policy does not go higher than 3000 texts a month, and the bloke I spoke to was quite amazed that anyone would ever go over that until he looked at my son's previous bills! I decided to cancel the contract and have given a month's notice but am looking around, does anyone know of anyone who offers more than 3000 texts a mont? Not too worried about minutes, can be either SIm only or pay as you go. Thanks

Most networks offer unlimited but in reality there is a limit, Vodafone has the same limit 3000. Three has higher (5000 I think) but to be honest you need to get him to moderate his use. That is 100 a day on average for most months.

Assuming he's asleep 8 hours thats one every 10 minutes.
If you assume he's got the phone off at college thats one every 6 minutes.

Why not buy a PAYG sim and top it up the minimum each month to get the free texts, once he's hit the limit they come out of the credit, and once that credit has gone he has no more texts unless he tops up himself. You need to refuse to give him more credit each month though.

That should mean he starts to learn the cost of his phone useage, rather than Mum paying, and may save you an expensive bail out once he gets older and discovers credit cards.

I too think it is a HUGE amount of texts but he is adamant he cant cut down, I struggle to use my allowance of 300 a month so I have no idea how he can send so many.
but he does, and is happy to pay for it so will have a look at 3, someone said O2 have a 12000 a month limit so will look at that now.

get your son to check out giffgaff.
They run on the O2 network. But their unlimited (via their monthly "goodybags") is truly unlimited. So for £10 each month, he'll get 250 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data.
If he doesn't call anyone and only uses texts..they have a £5 goodybag. No minutes or data - but unlimited texts.
This might help him bring his monthly costs down.

o2 payg have a fup of 12,000 texts for £7.50 on simplicity. Giffgaff offer unlimited texts with no fup for £5.

The reason there is a fair use policy is to stop spammers, 3000 should be more than enough for most users

Not to contradict the post but Vodafone are actually the only network that has truly unnlimited texts, I know this as I personally know someone who sends surplus of 10k texts a month, and is not charged for them

Vodafone has a Fair use Policy of 3000 a month on contracts, tell him to never change the contract he'll get the FUP applied.

GJ, I can guarentee you that there is no FUP on VODA,

Voda definately have a FUP on PAYG, not sure about PAYM but I'd imagine it would be the same
