I'm no expert but it seems you should have a good credit score by the information you have given.

I am a little confused as to why you have gone for this card they are offering.

If you really want one I would look around for a btter deal such, there are some on the cards/loans pages of the site where some are offering good pruchase rates.

I would also recommend through personal experience never ever have a credit card with the people you bank with if it can be avoided on the just incase you run into a little trouble paying the balance.

I have a barclays card and they are forever changing my limits and interest rate. Both change around 3 times a year. I have never understoof why but I keep it for the 'just incase' and I am unable to surf cards as I got into a pickle a little while ago.

Waffle over and good luck x

Thanks for your reply and insight. :)

I have gone for that card they were offering because it was pre-approved and on my customer profile.

I wanted a credit card with the bank, as some people suggested to try the bank you bank with first before going somewhere else for a credit card. The current bank will know your banking history and how well you handle money, etc...

Out of curiosity, why did they change limits and interest rates? Did they limits go up or down usually?

Did you apply for the Barclaycard in branch or online? What card do you have at the moment?

Some un-official news about these Barclaycard declines - it seems that they use a 2 stage check, initial applications are done via Agency A on a credit worthiness basis, and then a second check is done via Agency B as the card is dispatched - dont ask me, i dont work there but I have been talked through the process.
What seems to be happening is people are passing initial checks, but failing the second checks that are more stringent than the 1st lot....
Thats the story as explained to me anyway...

Interesting stuff. I thought they only checked one credit reference agency, and not 2 (according to people on here). They check Equifax only. :s

    Looks like things have changed.

It seems to be happening for people who apply online (either new and existing Barclays customers - pre-approved or no pre-approval). Never heard about being declined when applying in branch. It also happens to their Platinum card range, and not other cards.

    Thanks for your reply.

    Update:

I applied a week ago for the pre-approved Barclaycard in branch. I have now received an email yesterday.

    Hello Mr. book12,

Good news, your application has been approved.

You recently applied for a credit card in your local Barclays branch. We’re delighted to confirm that your new Barclaycard Platinum Credit Card is now ready.

Your card will be with you in the next ten days. When it arrives, just follow the instructions on the sticker on the front of your card to make sure it’s activated. If your card doesn’t arrive in the next ten days, call us on 0844 811 9111*.

Your credit limit will be £.

I left out the credit limit for confiential reasons. :o

Now I'm worried that after calling to activate, they will say it has been closed. Or if the card doesn't arrive, I call that number, they will say it's closed, just like other people have said on the forum. :(:o Will update further.

By the way, it's not a balance transfer Platinum card. It's just a normal Platinum card.

I am glad I don't need to go for a sub-prime card as my first card.

Why does it take 10 days to send a card? Usually it's 3-5 days.

You could also ask why it takes a week to send an email saying that your (supposedly already pre-approved) card has been approved.

There's nothing you can do to prevent this, so stop worrying about it.

Even after you have the card in your sweaty paws and have activated it, Barclaycard could close the account at any time.

True. Heard about other people calling the number and activating the card, and been told it has been closed due to not meeting criteria, etc...

Not sure if other banks will do this, or is it only Barclaycard. :p

    PIN arrived. :D

One step closer. Need to wait next week for the card, and activate the card. Hopefully, when I call next week they won't say my card has been closed.... I know people say no point worrying, as they can do what they want. I am still worrying, lol. :o

Ive got a strange feeling that Egg may start doing this for people currently with them when they clear the balance off the card.

    Card activated.

The customer service agent didn't say anything about my card being closed down, like other people have experiencedwhen they call to activate their card they have mentioned that the card has been closed down.

They tried to sell me other stuff which I politely declined.

No need to go down the sub-prime route! :D

I don't want to burst your bubble, however, they are known for closing the account up to a month after you have activated it, and started using it. I've had mine a month now, used it, then paid the balance off the following week, just in case.

    Be very careful.
