It's certainly interesting. My first thought was that it had to be a mistake, but then he said that he'd left the phone in an office. So it's certainly possible that someone used it for tethering without his knowledge or cloned the SIM etc.
A tricky one, I can't guess what will happen. If it wasn't with him then he would be responsible for the use?0 -

There seems to be a common thread on a lot of these overcharge threads, the phone is left somewhere and used without the person knowing, theres another thread where a SIM was stolen and a large bill run up.
Once again there are really simple steps to prevent this, PIN code the phone, SIM lock the sim and lock the phone when you leave it. Anyone picking up or stealing the pohone will find it usless without the PIN, and the SIM lock prevents the sim being put in another phone.
Both can be broken but it gives a first line of defence to these charges. All too often people put the convenience of not having to type a 4 digit pin into a device over the security if it. As someone else said if your bank card didn't have a PIN would you be so casual leaving it around as many of us are (in jackets, bags on chairs etc).
The Poster is responsible for the use of the phone, even if it's not in his posession which is why locks are so important. The poster needs to check his phones data log and see if the data was drawn to the phone, my guess is they were. Can vodafone tell exactly what it was, probably not, and you can imagine the outcry if they could, it would be a case of snooping on the customers useage.0 -
At least on this forum Vodafone can't close the thread when it gets unpleasant, exactly the same thing they did to me when they lied about what they could do in respect of a return, the oh so helpful people on the e-forum aren't so friendly in private emails.....0

Cases like these do make me wonder if the roaming networks add a few MB on to make a few extra quid. Got to admit, I doubt they'd think they could get away with that much

When i was on Three, i upgraded my data allowance because i got a new laptop and wanted to teather it to the laptop, no problem with that, they said it would be ready to use instantly,
Plugged my laptop in, within about 20 mins got a text saying your data run out called them up at they said there was £400 of charges on the account for data, but lucky once i got thought to somebody that knew what they were talking about they saw that for some reason it didn't go instantly and removed the charges0
