council complaints

Not sure if this is the place for this so sorry if it isnt but here goes.....
My daughter moved in to a council flat 3 years ago and for the first year everything was fine but 2 years ago it changed, loud music from some of the flats that goes on till 4 n 5 am ,one bloke is dealing weed from his flat so theres a constant stream of people mainly males coming and going who sometimes get the wrong flat so there knocking on my daugters door at all hours looking for there drugs, the last 2 bank holiday weekends we have just had saw gangs of people some who are not tennents all outside haveing bbqs on the grass area ,this wouldnt be a problem except there there till 2 am playing music drinking n been very loud, when my daughter first started reporting the problems to the council they sent out letters to all tennents about unsocial behaviour and one guy who was very noisey was in the prosses of beign ivicted when he commited suicide,as you can imagine my daughter was extremly upset by this and is now on medication for anxiety and panic attacks, but recently even though theres still noise and drug deals going on daily the council seem as if they dont care ,last week when we phoned up to complain yet again the response was ...well no one else has complained !! .... my daughter would love to move out but the council wont give her anything else as they dont see all this as a problem so shes on the lowest band for moving ,we have spoken to our local counceler who is backing us but cant do much except to keep on at the council to sort out the problems ,it just seems like the council dont belive my daugter or dont care and we dont know what else to do ,the police are no help as when we phone them they say its up to the council to sort out and only call them if theres violence ,my daughter is now scared that the other tennents will soon realise its her complaining about them ,its all making her so ill and i dont know what else we can do ...any help or advise will be greatly recived

Can she not move back home for a few months or get a private rented property?

I'd be tempted to put a note on my door.. 'do not knock here for drugs.. that is flat number ##'

Have a look for a swap. There are many websites where people are on who want's to swap homes, some want to downgrade other's to upgrade their bedroom's. Also your local council should have a mutual exchange register same as above. They may also have one online. (mine does). Failing that, could she not move in with you until she finds somewhere else to rent perhaps privately? Share a house? I do feel for her because I myself went through similar but thankfully My aunties friend was giving her council house up to move with her partner, so we did a mutual exchange but she never moved into my flat but i had her house (Council didn't know what we were up too), She gave 4 weeks notice as soon as we swapped, I just paid the 4 weeks rent for her.

Also get a letter from her GP for her to be re housed, It won't help an awful lot as she has a roof over her head. But every little helps. Pile the s hit on with the GP get her referred to a CPN/Councillor ya know..

Could you help your daughter find a private rent? I wouldn't want any relative of mine having to deal with that on their doorstep on a regular basis - her quality of life in her own home must be practically zero.

Are the council aware of your daughter's medical issues etc, all down to where she lives? If not, I'd make it known, and quickly. Unfortunately, it probably is the case that the council won't do much if anything as long as the rent's getting paid.

If you think drugs are being dealt call the police. Even if they don't find anything it might make the other tenants a bit more cautious about being so brazen.

thanks guys for the advice ,the council do no about her medical conditions and we are seeing her docter next week to get a letter off him for them as this is what our local counciler said to do ,as for putting a note on her door this is out of the question as the dealer lives directly across from her and the last thing we want is probs from him, he has already been caught growing his own weed and then again with drugs in his flat (this was the council on a visit that caught him) all they did was fine him £80 and warn him,as i said befor the council no whats going on here and they dont seem to care,as for getting a swap thats out the window as no one wants to live in these flats anymore ,people move in n out again all the time most are all young people ,all the council do is give my daughter diary sheets to fill in then close the case after it goes quiet for a few weeks then guess what it starts again ,the main prob is from tennants that have been there a few years they all hang around together n party together ,other people that have fallen out with them tend to get there door kicked in and furniture smashed so as you can see we dont want anyone to know shes reporting them , i forgot to say my daughter is the only female in the blok the rest are all single males ,there friends hang around in the hall ways drunk and abusive the security door on the front of the building is constantly broken as they kick it open ,my daughter no longer feels safe in her own flat and on top of all this her council impact officer will no longer deal with me on her behalf because i lost my temper last week and told her shes a waste of space ,im at my wits end with worry about my daughter :(

Ask your daughter ever report the nois to the Environmental Protection noise team, also to ring the police every time she sees any drugs activity and any noise of the type you have told us as that should be classed as anti social behaviour.

Thanks but we already reported to Environmental Protection noise team who sent a letter out to the main noise maker then after two weeks of quiet said we didnt need monitering equipment and closed the case ,this was after been on a waiting list for equipment for over 18 months ,as you can see we have been doing everything we can think of via council police and noise team yet still it goes on :(

OP I feel for you I really do. We're in the same situation, in fact this could be me you're talking about, the details are so similar. My neighbours also openly smoke dope in the communal areas of the building, so it can often be smelt strongly in my flat. To cap it all we're overcrowded and living in a flat which is covered in damp, with an asthmatic child.

The council are fully aware of our situation but couldn't give a stuff. If anything it's me who gets treated as the troublemaker as I'm constantly on the phone to them and I think it makes them a bit uncomfortable that their generic brush-off letters don't wash with me.

My next step is to try and get the local MP involved and as she's newly-elected, I'm hoping she'll be keen to impress.

I really hope they start listening to you soon, I know how frustrated you feel.

Please contact the police and the noise team EVERY time, if you persist and get a log number for every call to the police, then they have a duty to investigate.

Ask the noise team for log sheets and note every noise issue down. Then send copies to your councillor and MP.

What a lovely idea, swap with someone and put them through that hell instead! You could get in serious trouble for doing that and not disclosing the fact he is a dealer.

Surely the police have to do something if he is dealing? See if your neighbours are willing to put in a complaint as a whole rather than as individuals and take it to the council together, after all they have a obligation to make sure their premisies are not used for dealing drugs surely?!
