If the park is manned then I think it's different - there is after all £15-£20k salaries to pay each year... :)
As for "happily paying for go-ape"... uhm actually lots of us DON'T pay to go to go-ape because it's insanely expensive :) We pay for the indoor play place where the monster can run around to her hearts content - but that's a private facility, not paid for by our council tax in the first place and they have overheads, tax, staff etc to pay for... and infact they have shut down due to flooding over 6 months ago so now we don't even have that where we live...
I think if something has been paid for with my taxes for the good fo the community then I don't really want to be charged for it a second time! It doesn't really apply to me as I live no-where near the playground in question but in principle I don't agree with it...

Personally I think £2.50 is perfectly reasonable, its not a huge amount of money.
I really don't want my children to pick up nasty habits or nits mixing with rough children in playgrounds.

you must be so proud...nits for your opinion are not predjudice (unlike you) they will only find clean hosts, so maybe that alone says enough about you! "rough children" are not the cause of every bit of negative press you and you scone & cream tea chums are believing, maybe your "little darlings" contribute. here's hoping they repay your blinkered vision of other children by bringing shame upon you!

what a bloody stupid braindead idea, typical of all local authorities! then they would whinge their tits off when vandalism etc escalated because they are taking away (by way of charges) facilities of the underpriviledged, a large propotion of underpriviledged families could not afford this, what if they were to have a couple of kids wishing to use it 2 days every week, its a small fortune to people who do not have the money.

People are more than happy to pay £25 a time to go to Go Ape or to pay £6 each to get into a soft play centre.
Indeed they are. But these weren't built with money from the public purse were they? :)

Adventure Playgrounds started springing up in the 1950's on disused bomb sites. In the 1960's Local Authorities started maintaining these playgrounds as there existance proved successful in attracting large numbers of children. In crowded city areas, such as wandsworth, where bored children may be get involved in other types of excitment, the Adventre Playgrounds demonstrably kept even the most challenging children happily engaged in activities. Wandworth have had this adventure playground for the best part of fourty years, which has always maintained free from charge, and free from access (Adventre Playgrounds are not care settings, so children can come and go as they please)
Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!

Well, you must be pleased by the new cuts then! From now on, any new park built won't be paid for by your tax.

Did I hear that the park is being used by alot of people outside the borough?
If that's the case, I think that non-residents should pay tbh.

And coucil run swimming pools? People seem quite happy to pay for those. And council run car parks? People pay for those too.

Of course, they could just leave it open 24/7 let anyone in and they can spend their time cleaning up the needles, broken glass and drug paranphanlia left behind before one of your kids falls onto it. Or fixing it when teens break it or set fire to it.

Sometimes there is a price to pay or things being kept nice by a member of staff. Blame society, not the council.

When I posted about being happy to pay for Go Ape I did not mean mean, i am too tight for that :rotfl: but soft play yes, we pay £6 a time for those. You say our council taxdoes not pay for them but apparently people who set up a business that involves childrens activities they get a grant/free business rates.

i really hope these charges are not introduced to wandworths other adventure playgrounds, or worse, introduced during term time / school holiday week days

Our county council have said they are building a park for disabled children in our county - however, there will be a charge to get in as there areother specialised parks for disabled children in other counties. I think it is £4 or £6 a visit. I have deleted the document unless it's in another folder, that had the information in so cannot find the exact details on the charge.
