It's taking far more than is actually required.
Housing benefits only pays for enough rooms. Kids share for instance if they are the same sex.
Housing benefits for those who work and get top ups will only pay up to the size needed, and bedrooms needed.
Yet a couple walks into a brand new 3 bed home, leaving 2 spare bedrooms, and reduced rent, simply because "they had it before" with a cheque from the taxpayer for the upheavel.
No one gives a flying <insert appropriate word here> what anyone had before in any other circumstance.
.
If the council had built decent accommodation for older people then they might not have such a problem in convincing them to move. My mother move to a 1 bed maisonette and the there is not a shortage of people willing to move out of their 3 bed houses into similar properties. But can you blame a 60-year-old couple for not wanting to move into a tower block.0 -
Plenty of babyboomers living in council houses and working at the same time.We cannot change anything unless we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses. Carl Jung

Thats not true (think about it).
The difference you are referring to is HB and LHA, which is usually, but not always, associated with social and private renting.
LHA will generally only pay for 'rooms needed', HB is not so rigid.
How come you're still coherent. Shouldn't you be drunk by now (confused)!?0 -

What is the matter with people?!
Some of them don't HAVE to move to tower blocks. They OWN other properties!!!!
I really do not get how some can back up such an insane system. But back it up they do. I simply cannot grasp it.
What on earth is wrong with just looking at peoples assets and finances, and then deciding whether they should actually use their own assets like the rest of us, instead of the states, and getting taxpayer money for the "inconvinience".
I do give up though. Some obviously cannot see the injustice, and thats that.0 -

I wouldn’t have thought that there were that many people doing that as most would buy their house at the reduced rate.0 -

Are we still debating housing(?). It's becoming a little repetitive, like ground-hog day.
A more pressing question: San Miguel or triple filtered Stella, which should I pick next? Any ideas?0
