I don’t quite understand why people are crying for better security on private lets and the opposite on social housing.

Also I would have thought that most people well of enough to buy would buy their council house under right to buy if forced to move.

Because it's different people. Some want to drag people down to the lowest common denominator, while others see an opportunity to aspire to improvements for all. It's the politics of envy versus the politics of ambition.

Simple, the consequence of divide and rule technique, surely? :D

Say what you like about these home-owners, they might be greedy baby boomer selfish fuckers, but they know how to get the young'uns and the 'have-nots' squabbling amongst themselves :)

As far as I can tell you don't think she should be able to stay and as you think you can only get a council house if you don't work, then if she is forced out it follows that a person who doesn’t work will get the house.

It's not security thats my personal issue here. Have as much security as you want.

It's taking far more than is actually required.

Housing benefits only pays for enough rooms. Kids share for instance if they are the same sex.

Housing benefits for those who work and get top ups will only pay up to the size needed, and bedrooms needed.

Yet a couple walks into a brand new 3 bed home, leaving 2 spare bedrooms, and reduced rent, simply because "they had it before" with a cheque from the taxpayer for the upheavel.

No one gives a flying <insert appropriate word here> what anyone had before in any other circumstance.

Plenty of babyboomers living in council houses and working at the same time.

Unless it was what was agreed when the contract was signed...... which it was.

Thats not true (think about it).

The difference you are referring to is HB and LHA, which is usually, but not always, associated with social and private renting.

LHA will generally only pay for 'rooms needed', HB is not so rigid.

No i do not think only people who work get a council house, but i do admit that i think its easier to get one if you dont work and rely on benefits.
