Debate House Prices
In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non MoneySaving matters are no longer permitted. This includes wider debates about general house prices, the economy and politics. As a result, we have taken the decision to keep this board permanently closed, but it remains viewable for users who may find some useful information in it. Thank you for your understanding.
We'd like to remind Forumites to please avoid political debate on the Forum. This is to keep it a safe and useful space for MoneySaving discussions. Threads that are - or become - political in nature may be removed in line with the Forum’s rules. Thank you for your understanding.
Is this right?

It's not about me. It's about everyone who pays in to a system.
I am just wanting to know what the point of this thread is and what specifically it is you are complaining about.
Do I think she needs subsidised housing? No. Do I want to start another debate on this when this has been done to death? No.
Do I think that she should be moved to a one bed flat because her three bed house is being knocked down? Absolutely not. This is a separate issue and if you cannot separate them you shouldn't have started this thread, as there are enough general rants on the matter of council housing in this forum already.0 -
P.s. You might have more of a point if the govt was paying her rent, but it isn't I presume, so it's likely the rent she pays covers the cost of the housing such that it's not affecting you.0

What makes you say she has no savings and no decent pension?!
Thats neither here nor there. I see plenty of people everyday, including a fair amount of pensioners, who are getting their mortgages paid by the government - 'us'. If we're talking about poor pensioners then I'd much rather be paying housing benefit for them to live in social housing which can, sooner rather than later, be returned to the community than pay mortgage payments on a property destined to be the lottery win for said pensioners kids.
I think not making sure you have enough funds to cover your housing needs for say 10,20,30,40 years isnt really classed as something that is neither here nor there myself0 -

Just because some other people have 'done it to death' does that mean the discussion must end as soon as someone points out that it's been 'done to death'?
If you feel it's been 'done to death' then step aside and let other people debate a current situation. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
Err, keep on biting Jimmy, I need somebody to play with this evening
Well you are quite welcome to come to the other thread on council housing, its getting quite interesting now, we are already at the stage were i complain about the parasites getting free houses and then people come back and say oi what about those who work and live in council houses, always happens that for some unknown reason.
I think i should start a thread called......My views on parasites who get given a free house for life and yes i know not everybody who lives in a council house is not a parasite and some of the tenants work for a living so please dont mention the working tenants because we know they exist we are just talking about the parasites.
Dunno if that would fit in the title though.0 -
