Blackberry unlock and use

Hello,
I have a new Blackberry bold...
This blackberry i have is a gift from a friend and he gave me this from his visit in the USA...

I live in Europe, i have a prepaid sim card i use with my old cell phone (i have blackberry of older model - blackberry pearl).

Any way, when i got the new blackberry from this friend, i inserted the sim card from the old blackberry (it's Orange sim card) to this new one and it didn't worked (it was showing "SOS" on screen and won't let me call or get any calls).

2 days ago i have found some info that i need to unlock this blackberry because it's an American one and they use other technology there (not using sim cards), i have found that i can use a service online that can unlock my blackberry so i can use my orange sim card.

Any way i have used
blackberry-unlocking.org
and it's actually worked, got some codes and then unlocked it by myself.

now, it's really working and after inserting the codes to it i can use my new blackberry bold with my orange sim card from my old blackberry pearl...
but i don't have a data plan on my prepaid sim card from orange, i was wondering, if i change a sim card or cellular provider (the website says that unlocked blackberry can work with all "gsm" carriers) it will work also? i mean the internet... or i need to get other sim card ? i want to keep my phone number and get internet so how can i get it cheap to have internet in my unlocked blackberry bold.

You can port your number to any network ('cellular provider').
I think for a cheap 'PAYG' internet giffgaff (o2) is the most popular one. Also have a look at chitter-chatter (t-mobile).
I am not sure about some special BB services/bolt-ons.
