Always try and find a station that is JUST an MOT station and not a repairers, they haven't got a vested interest in finding something wrong then to entice you to leave it with them for a 'free' retest.0

I paid £40 last week and it failed, only on a tyre and brake light so i got a free retest. There is no way on this earth I'd go to Kwik Fit after they quoted £250 for new brakes (pads and discs) - the same ones which just passed an MOT (after taking it there for a tyre which it failed the MOT on). Funnily enough I didn't buy the tyre either, went to a local guy for a decent part worn.
I've just booked my car in for an engine service with my same independent garage as I was happy with his service, bad luck Kwik Fit - there aren't so many mugs about these days

They failed ours a few yrs ago because our horn was too harsh!! And we couldn't prove it but had issues with a broken exhaust (nothing wrong with it when it was at other garage - fixing something but didn't do mot-after mot had hole.) After complaining, they fixed it for nothing so that explains things if u ask me.
Wouldn't get mot there again ever. We like the little local independent garage!0 -
Just come across this thread. I'm another who wouldn't go near them tbh.
Car was making some rattling noises when turning corners only. OH thought it could be wheel bearings, so we took the car there for a 'free brake check' as when we phoned they said they could check wheel bearings at the same time. Stupidly I decided to mention I was looking around for where to book it's MOT in the following week.
Guess what? I came away having been told that there was a hole in the exhaust and it was blowing and would fail the test, but I couldn't juts buy the middle part of the exhaust as it was on the join, so I would have to buy a new middle part and backbox... and that the brakes were 'verging on dangerous' (the point where I started to doubt them as OH had only changed the brakes 7k miles previously).
So I thanked them for their time and left with the car, and took it somewhere else for its MOT, which had no mention of brakes or exhaust, all I got was an advisory on a wiperblade and an advisory as I forgot to take the kids seat out.Mummy to beautiful 5yr old girl and a gorgeous 1yr old boy:D0 -
I'm in the NO WAY gang.
My bf many years ago had 2 tyres changed there. When I took it to a garage recommended by my dad the next time I needed a new tyre, the man there told me KF had put 2 wrongs sized tyres on my car - he showed them to me and sure enough 2 were much bigger!!
Would not touch again. Take a recommendation on a mechanic from friends. I am so lucky to have mine.Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -
Bit surprised at all this negativity towards Kwikfit. I've used them at least dozen times over the past 5 years and find their service and prices they offer very good. I have never had any complaints
Maybe I've been lucky having a good branch in my home town and have always been treated courteously and professionally by their staff.
P.S I am not a Kwikfit employee0 -

i'm afraid i have to agree with the majority of other MSE users on this thread.
i used them once 2 years ago; let's just say i'll never be going back there again.
i do agree that you are lucky though. if you're happy with their service then good.
personally, i prefer my local, independent garage.:grouphug:

A nightmare..
A few times i have used them to price match local garages on tyres, the list price was ment to be £130 each, but most times i would have them fitted for £93 each. The benefit of this was that Kwik Fit was a national company, so any issues they could be repaired anywhere.
They would always try to snag other things on the car, tell me that brakes were ABC worn. The best was that my Gas Shocks were leaking oil. A few days later the car had its first ever MOT and passed without issues.
