Claiming on paymentcare when I lost my job

Options
Hi there, wonder if you can help. Last Septmeber I lost my job. Company went bust. Initially I thought I'd be ok as I had 3months worth of expenses saved in the event of losing my job. But these soon got used up and I applied for jobseekers allowance. At the same time I called Santander Paymentcare that Ive had since 2003, and told them about my circumstances. They sent out a form for me to fill. All very confusing. By now we are into Dec and coming up to Christmas. I needed to get it signed by my previous employer to confirm my last day of employ. So that took time and travelling to them in the snow was a nightmare but did it. But the rest of it asked for my doctors sign off?!! I didn't lose my job due to illness, so called them back up and they confirmed they'd sent out the wrong form. They told me they would send the right form out. I said this is going to take ages and i was depserate and couldnt' I include the signature from the wrong form rahter than have to wait till after Christmas to see my old employer again to get the signature yet again! They said no, it had to be the new form. It took weeks because of the postal delays due to snow. They said i needed confirmation that I was seeking a jobseekeers allowance - again I wasn't going to get this for ages because job Centres didn't open again until 14th Jan and processing my claim had already taken two weeks. By now I was really struggling and panicing as I'm now completely out of money. As it happened I managed to get a new job at the start of JAn, so didn't make the claim. But I am now seriously out of pocket, in debt havin relied on credit cards and desperately trying to recover and get back to where i was, but as the money comes in it goes straight out!

My question is can I claim retrospectively for the time I was out of work? I can prove I claimed job seekers allowance from Dec for about a month, and I can prove I lost my job on 12th September as my employer will sign off.
