Moving SIM card to new phone

I suspect the answer is yes but I want to check...
I have a 4-year old Blackberry Pearl, and it went out of contract over 2 years ago; I've been on 02Simplicity ever since, as I rarely use it except odd texts.
The trackball keeps getting gummed up. I've performed fiddly surgery on it about 4 times, and the latest time it hasn't helped. I can't move up or to the left! Basically the phone is unusable and of course, way out of warranty.
So I need to buy a new handset - is it right that I can just move the SIM card, and the new handset will just work, with my old number, and stay on the old Simplicity contract? Or is there more to it than that...
Many thanks

Nothing more than that if the new handset is unlocked of locked to O2.
For a sim free handset you will probably need to change some settings.0 -
Thanks, I don't want to make an expensive mistake. I am inclined to find an 02 shop somewhere and check with them that it's going to work, but I don't want to end up being blagged into buying an expensive handset.0

If you have a smartphone other than a BB you will have to change the data element of your acc. Blackberry run through their own data service (BIS) all other phone run through a standard data plan. . .0

Putting your sim in a new phone doesn't change your contract in any way, the networks don't care what phone you use (obviously they'd like you to sign up to a long contract to get one off them). However, as Jon 01 notes if you switch to a non-blackberry device make sure you aren't still paying (if you are at the moment) for the blackberry plan as it would be useless to you.0

I was contracted to a Blackberry plan where I got emails and internet but when I changed to Simplicity it's just a tenner a month and I had all the other bolt-ons taken off; I can't access any SmartPhone type things on this phone so I *think* it's going to be okay, but I don't know for sure.0

Does £10.50 PAYG Simplicity not include some data allowance?. I don't know what you actually are getting for £10, but I think you can do better with giffgaff (o2 network) or chitter-chatter (t-mobile).0

I don;t think it does, or at least I did ask them to pare it right down to the minimum and I cannot get emails/internet on the phone any longer.0

i think you need to change a few settings on your phone, i have changed a GSM option after unlocking my blackberry for it to work.0

I don't want emails or internet on it, I asked them to pare it right down to the minimum. I found I was working all the time; I need time off! But thank you.
I'm going into 02 shop today to see what they might say.0
