  • Eon is actually £99 up front which effectively means zero income for the first year with a free install.... not a good deal, and not much to write home about afterwards.

£70 a year off my electric?
    Sorry, not worth the hassle.

According to the website, installation is free:

    i.e. quote:

"Are there any charges as part of this offer? No, the installation is free for both E.ON customers and non customers."

  • I applied to Eon for free solar panels but when the suveyors came to inspect my property I was told ' you have to commit to Eon for energy' I wrote to them cancelling IF this condition applied. The response was: I had cancelled. I took this as proof of the commitment rule. Eon seem to have little coordination as several weeks later I had a call as if I was still expecting to have the installation but recieved no information to the contary.
Have I missed out ? Is it worth it?

If I move home do I effectively have to buy out of the lease and therefore pay the termination fee and cancellation charges or does it get transferred to the new owner? Also is it true that I can buy the solar panels later at a reasonable cost (and is this cost similar to the cancellation fees) and then benefit from the feed in tarrifs as well? Will my home insurance costs increase? If so will it be a large increase and who pays for the increase? my mortgage lender is Cheltenham & Gloucester - are they likely to object?

Thanks for your help on this

    Sandra
  • Hello Helena,

Do Eon offer an Option to purchase the System at a Later Date? If so what are the details?

    Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply owdfosil. To be honest, I don't know a lot about the solar panels so have been talking to the people who do.

I'm also sorry for the poor advice you were given. You don't have to stay with E.ON for the duration of the lease agreement; nor do you have to be an E.ON customer to apply for Solar Exchange now as it's available to everyone.

You haven't missed out yet. Let us know if you want more info. Drop an email to the address in my Profile if you prefer as will be happy to help.

    Hi Sandra

The panels and the lease agreement stay with the property. If you decide to sell your home, the buyer will buy the property with the panels and the lease agreement.

If the new owners decide they don't want the panels, they could pay the termination fee and buy themselves out of the contract.

It's also true you can buy the solar panels later. You can pay a termination fee which will effectively cancel the lease agreement.

Once this has been done, you can do as you wish with the panels. Just a quick heads up here; if you wanted to remove the panels after you've paid the termination fee, this would be at your own cost.

If you wanted to keep the panels on the roof, you can benefit from receiving the Feed In Tariff yourself. To do this, you would need to apply to become the recipient of the Feed In Tariff. You can do this by downloading an application form from our website.

The panels themselves will be insured by the Mark Group. However, you should check with your buildings and contents provider to see if there needs to be any amendments made to your existing policy.

Again, I would also refer to your provider about any potential increases to your insurance premiums.

We've contacted the C&G with a copy of the lease agreement and they've already consented to us installing the panels for customers where they're the lender.

Eversheds, the firm of solicitors who are carrying out the legal admin work, will contact your mortgage lender on your behalf to obtain consent, so you don't have to.

Sorry this is a bit long Sandra but hope I've managed to answer your questions. I'm not particularly up on this offer so have taken advice from those who are. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.
