08000mumdad reverse calling - RECLAIM
yes you heard it right RECLAIM YOUR EXPENSE :j
if you have ever had a bill thats got 08000mumdad reverse call charges on it you can reclaim the expense. (08000686323)
heres the legal part you got to know.
mobile services such as companies that offer ringtones. etc that pay by deducting from phone bill.. including reverse call charges have to stick to certain guidelines. and this definetly needs to be followed in cases when it comes to companies aiming at kids.
the guidelines are that no single service should exceed £3 for a call/text/ringtone where the advertising or the service is aimed at a person under 16 using the service
now then 08000mumdad the first clue is in the name. advertise towards the offspring. they have tried to suggest all their advertising is based around the adult age off spring. but here is the proof you need to trip them up.
their advert on their webpage not only shows the offpring being of nightclub /working age.. but they let it slip by showing people in school uniforms and the stereotypical 'hoodies'.
oops, that made them fall over.
i had a massive £300 bill of 08000mumdad charges initially they said it was my fault for letting a under age user - use the service.
to which i replied with my evidence they had my consent to you the service plus their advertising (evidence mentioned already) and that all calls which total more then £3 should be reimbursed without delay.
ok things to note. they try to separate the charges so that it appears on phone bill as £1.50 connection charge and £3 for minute usage. suggesting no charge is over £3. BUT again another trip on their side.
NO SINGLE CALL/SERVICE by them can be used without the total charges equalling atleast £4.50. basically even if a SINGLE call lasts just 1 milisecond you will be charged £1.50 + £3.00=£4.50
so remember a single call a single service always totals atleast £4.50 in the end.
even if they split it up 45 ways as 45x10p charges they are still breaking the phones services policy by having a single call/ service totalling £4.50 so dont let them tell you differently
with this fact they refunded me the full £300..
even though they tried to haggle on refund amount by looking through all the calls and then if it was a short call theyd say "how about this small call we reimburse the £3 and this second longer call we reimburse the £1.50"
i stuck to my guns and said they cannot discount the charges after the fact as they have already breached the policy on selling phone services to children.
hope this helps.
this reclaim would not have been possible if the advert did not feature shots of parental offspring in school uniform/hoodie to suggest that they are under 17 age limit. and if their company name is "mumdad" adding more suggestion its aimed at offspring so remember this when fighting your side of argument.

I thought they call you , explain the charges and ask if you will accept the call?0
-
yes and by you accepting the calls you are accepting responsibility of the call ..the legal bit is not about whom actually pays the bill or who is responsible for the bill.
the crux or loop hole of the whole thing is that they are advertising TO KIDS to use a service. yes even if its the recipient whom is a adult who gets the bill its stil a child that does the first step of using the service.
and thats where they trip up on the advertising a service to a child to use which ends up costing a MINIMUM of £4.50
there is no way that you can use the service where it costs ever just appear as 10p, £1.50, £3.. yes they can break down the charges into slices however they please and word each slice whatever they want.. but if using the service just once still ends up costing a total minimum of £4.50(2 slices) they are doing so wrongly.
it would be different if a child could make a 10 second phone call and it only costing £1.50(one slice) just long enough to say "dad call me back" but in reality the actual case is a milisecond still results in a £4.50 charge split-up as £1.50 +£3.00(2 slices)
i asked them ok explain how my child can use the service once and i only receive a single charge or a charge totalling less then £3.01
to which they said there is no way.
a hyperthetical to help explain it
imagine it as a rule that a child cannot be offered a mcdonalds meal that will end up costing more then £3. thats the rule. (hyperthetically)
mcdonalds offers a childs meal as a burger for £2.99 but only if they pay an additional £1.50 for fries
there is no possible way a child could get the burger with only £3 in their pocket. it will always cost them £4.50 no matter how they advertise it or word it or slice up the prices that child CANNOT walk out the door with just a burger and a penny in pocket.0 -
So they call you , explain the charges, then ask if you will accept the call. You accept the call and then reclaim the charges (which you were aware of) using the logic that a child initiated the call (which you were also aware of when you accepted)?
Unless I'm missing something, this sounds like avoiding paying a valid charge .0 -
techhead
£4.50 is NOT a valid charge, its too much
its the same as people reclaiming bank charges. we would not mind so much if the amounts were within reason. but because they are so high, dang right its worth getting your money back on.
if only they offered a service where it cost £3 or less for a child to call home it would be much more fair.0 -
Its valid in the sense that you are made aware, beforehand, how much it costs. You are free to refuse the service. So I can't see why you feel you have grounds to reclaim a charge you agreed to?
By all means suggest to them that the service should be cheaper. But you should consider the cost before agreeing.0 -
so because the banks make you aware that their overdraft charges are £30, £50, £120 you think its fair??
simply because they pre-tell you??
in actual fact advertising ANY service with the intention for a child to use the service does have a £3 limit..
so £4.50 is not fair
and in my opinion receiving £300 bill for less then 200 minutes (one minute per call) use or from my actual total 45 minutes talk time on the bill is rediculously high price
yes some calls were simply, "call me back". or "its me" and then hung up.
i understand businesses need to make money but failing to follow oftel guidelines in respect to service charges aimed at children is not right.
just because someone pre-tells you the charge does not make it ok that the charge is soo high.. if you had kids and they were phoning you, wouldnt you regret not accepting the call if it was something important like they were stuck somewhere/something happened.
techhead no need to reply. im just leaving information out their to let others use or ignore. i dont need opinions. its just information.0 -

then you should have a word with your childseems to be bad parenting to me..
if mine kept calling me on a premium rate number to say call me back or its me they would get a bloody clip around the ear, and no pocket money until its paid back.
why cant they send you a text to say the same? they must have a mobile.. all kids do.. and most payg plans have inclusive texts if you top up by x amount a month.
theres really no use to use such a service, especially to the extent of racking up a £300 bill because of it..0 -
Its nothing like overdraft charges. The reverse charge companies actively ask you if you wish to receive the service.
(By the way, it isn't up to you to decide who posts on these forums, that's the job of the forum team) In my opinion the fact that you wish to stifle discussion betrays the weakness of your argument.0 -
my point is it DOES NOT MATTER who accepts the charges, whom ends up paying the bill
its a service aimed at getting children to instigate/start using/ dial the number in the first place
this puts 08000mumdad on bad footing. and the charge being impossible to be anything but £4.50 for a single use trips them up.
08000mumdad should atleast change it that first 10 seconds is £3 and then subsequent time being whatever.
how about i use this hyperthetical to help understanding
imagine theres a law no single phonecall/text/phone service can exceed £15 for a single use.
you receive a phone call that says "we have your daughter on the line she really needs to speak to you its urgent but for you to speak to her we will charge you £40 will you accept the call charge"
whether you accept or reject the call.. is it right to allow a company to do this0
