you have paid £60 per month for what? 15 months, that is £900 and they want another £840. So £1740 for 15 months gas.

    Something wrong somewhere.

Post your meter readings and dates when read and definately check if your meter is metric or imperial.

It is worth pointing out that all gas meters used to be Imperial. There has been an ongoing program to replace these with Metric meters.

Most of the problems in this area stem from the Utility company not being informed of the meter change, or not entering thjat information into 'The Computer', and thus continuing to charge for an Imperial meter.

I was somewhat surprised (putting it mildly) when I received an £840 Bill just for Gas!
We already Pay £60 a month for Gas and, after the winter we had had I was expecting to probably owe a couple of hundred. they hadn't had a real meter reading since January 2010 (which was when I switched contracts with them I believe)

Remember that we also had a very cold spell at the start of the year, so that will be in the £1740 for the last 15 months.

Start right in the new property - find a tariff that works for you and get into the habit of updating reads regularly.

...and making rather a lot more money than they should be.
Strange how they have been so slack in resolving these issues/procedures :A

    Wow!

Just been to my old house and guess what, I have a metric meter!

The meter has a completely different serial no. to the one on my bill.
Tried to Call EDF but their computers are down for maintenance so I cant sort anything out with them yet.

They have been over charging us for 2 years (both contracts we had with them) of course I will take no pleasure when I tell them this :A

This is amazing guys thank you all so much for your comments today, without coming on here I probably would have just begrudgingly paid the bill.

    :grouphug:

I will post again once I find out what the real bill should have been...

Might be work checking your contracts as if they state the incorrect serial number too then the argument could be that you should have checked this and got back to them within the allotted time to advise it was incorrect.

Was your meter ever changed when you were at the property?

Does your gas meter have a sticker on it? That should tell you the details of the meter change. Ie: the final reading on the old meter when it was taken out and the reading on the new meter when it was fitted (invariably 00000 on gas meters). If the meter waschanged after you moved in, this should enable you to work out whether EDF have accounted for the meter change correctly (be warned: suppliers often get it wrong!)

On a seperate note: in my work as a meter reader, I sometimes find homes where the customer is being billed on the basis of having an imperial meter when they actually have a metric one and vice-versa, yet the supplier is using the correct meter serial number. It is not always a meter change that causes these problems. It seems to be the case sometimes that when a customer changes supplier, the type of meter gets recorded incorrectly. I work for Southern and they are generally seen as having the best computer database in the industry so it must be worse still for other suppliers (especially NPower that probably have the worst computer database).

House of Cutler - I would add that if a meter reader has been to your house to read the meter andEDF have not used the reading supplied by the meter reader, that is not your fault.

The meter reader should at least have noted on their hand-held machine that the database had the wrong information (ie: that you had a metric and not an imperial meter). This is extremely easy for a meter-reader to spot, I can assure you!. EDF should then have investigated this coment input by the meter-reader.

I would add that meter-readers get bonuses dependant upon their access rate )percentage of meter readings obtained as aginst total meters to read on a route) and/or the number of meter readings they obtain. Many do not consider it in their interests to investigate this serious problem as much as they should.
In short, really tou have EDF by the short and curlies. Do not pay this incorrect bill even if EDF demand this money from you!

OK you have a metric meter.

However you haven't stated that you are billed for an Imperial meter i.e. that for each gas unit on your bill you are charged for approx 32kWh.

If that is the case you are in for a BIG rebate.
