Expedia refunds Jet2 baggage charges

I recently started to search hotel and flight inclusive trips to Budapest on Expedia as I have done loads of times.

This time I noticed the airline included in the deal was Jet2 and also knew that they charged for checked in baggage. So for a change I rang Expedia and they confirmed I would have to go to the Jet2 website after I had booked with Expedia and add the other charges.

I told the Expedia agent that that was a bit rich as they have advertised a price inclusive of a flight and made no mention of the additional airline charges which would only be revealed after booking and paying for the trip.

Then to my surprise he said that if I booked the trip with him over the telephone he would give me the Expedia customer service number which I could ring and they would refund the cost of checked in baggage!

So guess what?? I did and they did (Refunded me £38) within 24 hours. Now that is a result.

Unfortunately I had to pay other charges when visiting the Jet2 site. Believe it or not they charge for airport check in if you do not check in on line. But they will not allow you to check in on line with checked in baggage.

This is incorrect. You can check in online, print your own boarding pass and then do a 'bag drop' at the airport.

  • I have used Jet2 in the past and had a pretty good opinion of them. But they have certainly ended my use of budget airlines.

Having paid just over £150 for a return flight and not being able to use the ticket I find that if I change my flight not only do I pay the difference in the cost of the ticket but pay £27,50 per sector admin fee.

And the meals and extra space seats do not transfer.

About £110 to change and get back to the same position.

Make your own mind up whether they are crooks.
  • I booked a holiday for 4 adults with Lowcost holidays, the package said baggage included and the flights were with Jet2.

When I came to check in on line and print off the boarding pass I noticed that there were no bags included.
On speaking to Lowcost holidays I was immediately asked if I had a screen print of the booking - who would ever actually do that? But of course as soon as I said I had not they said that there was nothing that they could do as I had no proof.
Something tells me that this is a complete scam - they made a mistake and if you have proof at the time then you get the refund, if you don't then its tough and you end up paying and additional £43.98 per person to take checked in baggage. Also on the Jet2 website its states baggage from £7.99 each way - no idea where this comes from either.
Have travelled with Jet2 many times, booked with Lowcost holidays many times. Jet 2 are up front with their booking fees. Lowcost holidays are just crooks and have an extremely rude customer service employee who actually told me that if I dont understand charges then I should not be booking holidays.
Please think carefully before using this company, they take your money and as far as I am aware your contract is with Lowcost holidays. Not a chance Lowcost expect you then to know that you have to check in on line directly with the airlines etc. although it state nowhere in the booking confirmation or conditions that this is the case. I was told it was common sense, hence the very rude customer service representative I spoke to.
Be very wary and if you can book with another company please do.

Even the likes of BA charge (a rather hefty amount) to change your ticket. Those charges seem very reasonable for a budget carrier.

They are not crooks - if you didn't like the charges then you shouldn't have told the airline you agree to them before you booked.
