removing very sticky residue from UPVC

Options
I had double sided velcro tape round my patio doors that the fly screens were attached to but when I took them off there is a layer of sticky glue attached to the upvc frame.

I have tried scraping it off with limited success, using WD40 on it (as it is upright it drips off quicker than I can rub/scrape it) and have tried using a scrubby scouring pad.

Any ideas to get shot of it? TIA

I will give it a go thanks. The amount of stuff I have used on the doors I am half expecting them to start melting if I use more chemicals haha

I have found turps to be a good cleaner and remover of sticky stuff like tape, stickers etc. It may soften the glue when applied with a cloth soaked with turps

    White spirit will shift it.

Petrol shifts most sticky things, useful stuff. I also recommend 'Lighter Fluid' in tins, like you'd refill a Zippo type lighter. You can get it easily at most newsagents in the yellow can. It's excellent as a cleaner for pretty much anything - but do be careful in use.

I had white spirit in the house so have given it a good going over with that and been scraping the softened glue with a wallpaper scraper and it is coming off a bit but there is still a residue. I will keep going and have another shot tomorrow and hope for the best. Thanks everyone.

Just out of curiosity (stupid question alert!) where do you get petrol from? Do you have to get a wee canister to the petrol station or can small amounts of it be bought elsewhere?

The other thing that is very effective is WD40

as mentioned other products will do, but there are specific upvc cleaners. You would need the solvent type rather than the cream. Of this again there are two different types one being the stronger. Once cleaned if you use jif and buff this it will bring the sheen back.

Steam worked really well when I had a similar problem, have you got a steam cleaner? or can you borrow one?
