sorry i just not getting my head around chain of events..

op damaged phone. sold it to shop. got new contract

    1) when did the number transfer happen -4-6 months ago .. or a few days after cancelation email more recently??

    2) if sim was lost how can OP be addiment no one else found sim and used it

    3) if transfer happened within month of today then get vodafone to compare calls of new phone to the calls of old number between the dates of the cancelation email - and the transfer completion to prove OP cannot be in 2 places at once.

OP please provide more details so we dont have to guess or work out what happened

so OP has proof calls were made AFTER cancelation email.. (im guessing from grumblers post) so calls were not made in the 4-6 months the sim card was lost.

ok then if this is true then
phone vodafone and request them to investigate the bill with their fraud department. to compare the calls on dates after cancelation..

basically compare locations calls were made to calls of new contract on same dates to prove OP cant be in 2 places at same time.

as from what i presume from reading it.. the excessive calls were made recently as OP says he has been dealing with this for upto a month now. he can use the emails and phonecalls to vodafone as proof of his intentions to cancel.
this gives him more lee-way about vodafones discretionary period about voiding call charges after a lost or stolen phone/ number being used without owners consent. etc
and that vodafone need to investigate the calls and reinstate his new contract with the excessive charges voided or placed on hold while investigation is being done.

The OP has not said the sim card was lost or was reported lost. How he/she knew when the number got cut off is a mystery then.

Vodafone probably cut off the number (when they noticed the unusual usage) and told the OP they had done so. At that point the OP probably started hunting for the sim card which would have already landed somewhere overseas for a few months because they flogged the old phone with the sim card in it.

i got a 2nd contract because i broke my old phone & stupidly didnt have insurance. i received cash back from a store to pay my bill monthly until the end of the contract.

Whoever got the old phone got the old active sim card inside, takes it overseas and uses the sim

Rather than choosing to pay off the line rental all in one go, OP took the option to keep paying till end of contract, leaving the sim card active whilst asking vodafone not to let the contract go beyond end date.

S happens - its the OPs problem and its not a scam by vodafone.

    he did lose sim
no i gave my phone back but kept the sim as i needed to transfer numbers. i moved house 4 months ago & unfortunately cant find the sim now, as it wasnt in a phone it was loose. but i think its strange that a sim has not been used for anything for 6 months,

im jsut wondering why OP did not cancel/transfer number 4-6 months ago as he kept the sim to transfer it.. why wait.
he had the money to pay off line rental early from the store selling his broken phone.

just all seems iffy.. especially if phone broke how he would receive enough money to pay 6 months of line rental
i received cash back from a store to pay my bill
    [end quote]

must have been a cheap £5/£10 a month contract as receiving over £60 for a broken phone seems iffy. story just not gelling right.. and this is probably why vodafone not helpful as the chain of events are not clear enough to understand who/how/when anything happened for them to look deeper into.

OP post full story dates of cancelations, transfers, emails to cancel/transfer

i got 5 broken phones one of them a smart phone ones a PDA with phone capability, most i ever got offered was £15/£20

    Hi reidydawn,

I understand that you still have some concerns about this situation. I have just sent another email to you to discuss it further.

As previously mentioned to you in our conversations, if a SIM card is lost or stolen then you would need to report it to us within 24 hours so that we can place a bar and it cannot be used. As this wasn't done in this instance, you would be liable for the charges. I understand that this isn't the outcome you were looking for, if you can reply to my email then I will be more than happy to give you a call regarding this.

    Best wishes,
