someone ran into the back of me
This is just not my day.
Was turning onto a roundabout, and straight off again to the left, had to stop mid turn as the car in front had stopped at traffic lights, and bump - someone hit me from behind.
Drove round the corner into the bus stop area (with hazards on, but didn't want to hold up all other traffic at busy roundabout) and stood and exchanged details.
The woman said it was her fault but she thought I was moving, clearly I wasn't as she hit me.
My question is, very low speed impact, no visible damage on bumpers of either cars, had a look underneath, nothing obvious.
I know I should report this to my insurance company, but in doing so, I will be penalised. Is it worth reporting and getting car checked out or should I just carry on as if it didn't happen?

check the boot floor. lift the carpet and have a good long look.
it may appear that no damaged was caused but the floorpan is designed to crumple. You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.0 -
Definitely get your car checked at a reputable bodyshop - when a bumper takes the impact then it has done its job - but in doing so there may be internal damage to the bumper which will mean that the next time it won't be able to absorb any impact and the shock will go through your car, meaning much more damage. Also, they need to chec out there is no hiden damage.
If it then gets a clean bill of health you could carry on as if nothing happened (though that would be in the knowledge you were breaking your policy conditions - and are you sure the third party won't be reporting this to her own insurer?0 -
not sure about third party reporting to their insurer because they only gave me their name, address and phone numbers.
They told me 'you contact your insurer, they will find out mine and contact them and it'll go from there'.
Roughly speaking, how much will it cost me to get the car checked over do we think? I'm in Glasgow if that's of any relevance.0 -
Cost to get it checked probably nothing. Free estimate usually.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Why will you be penalised if you contact your insurance? If it's her fault, anything that needs doing will count against her and it won't affect your no-claims. I got hit in the back a few weeks back, fair bit of damage to my car, though hers was written off but was her fault. In a case like yours the fault is almost always with the other driver as they should be driving with enough distance, at appropriate speed and paying attention so they don't run into the back of you0

Tell that to my insurer who thought it best to charge me an extra £200 this year due to the fact someone decided to drive into the back of my car, i.e. Not my fault.0 -
You have had an accident whether at fault or not they assume you will have more now.
Statistics tell them that or is it greed? one of them...Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Aviva didn't charge any extra for me. I checked by getting two quotes with identical dummy details except one with a no-fault claim. They were both the same.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

Going by the trend for rear end (fraud) claims it may be wise to inform BIB just in case.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
