I bought wood last year at this time (april 2010) for £70 per cu m partly seasoned.
It has gone up to £100 per cu m ........
Ok I know a lot of you have sources of cheap/free wood but has anybody else seenthis price rise ( south wales area)

I cut my own wood in 15 hectares so it's 'free', but in France, a cubic metre goes for anything between £35, and £80 depending on region, quality, etc.
Dry oak in Paris for example is going to be pushing above 80.
Given the costs involved in supplying logs, I'm surprised it's not higher.
Firstly you have to invest in all the equipment - pro chainsaw, safety gear, tractor, or similar, large trailer, splitter, somewhere to store it all. I would say a good 50k minimum to do it on a small commercial scale.
Then you have the labour involved in cutting and all your fuel costs.
Then you have to wait a year (to dry it) before you see any return.
It's not a gold mine......0 -

2/3 of a tonne here [midlands] is £75 i think that equates to £110 for 2 x cubic metres.0

Yep, I am paying about the same. My ususal wood supplier has whacked his prices up by 30%. Blames the forestry commission for the hike.0
