Water heater on timer?

I'm looking for a timer to replace a fused spur. (I hgave had contact with the manufacturer and they recommend that one of the leeds should be on timer as we don't have eco7 in our new place)
It would be technically possible to replace it with a switch and use a timer, but I doubt it would hold the 3kw (i'm still looking at the documentation for Amp) of our heater.
I have had a look at more dedicated solutions but at the trusted DIY chains not much luck so far (online as I can never find anything in store anyway).
Any suggestions?

You will want something like item i have mentioned below, as an electrician this is the one we use most commonley for hot water, it has the boost function of 30mins 1hour or 2hour and then turns its self off and can also be programmed with 3 other on off times if required.

It all depends how its wired, most of the ones ive come across are wired from the board to a switch or timer and then to a sw fused spur. The OP should also be wired this way or if not then it could easily enough be added down the line somewhere after the timer (if she chooses to fit)0 -
Fluffpot was spot on. These are switched, fused spurs but with a timer also, designed to replace a normal fused spur plate. I am going to use one to control an electric towel rail in a bathroom for example.0 -
Ive just used the smiths timeguard http://www.timeguard.com/products/time/immersion-heater-controllers/fst11a-supplymaster-24hr-fused-spur-timeswitch on mine, straight swap / replacement from the sw fuse to the timer / sw fuse.
Slight difference with this one as it has a usefull boost function on it too.You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -

I like that one! display looks a more readable size (if your on your hands and knees!) and it looks lower profile and smoother than the other, will go for that one for my need I think.0 -

Thanks! That looks exactly like how I imagined it
By the way I am wondering: I am confident I can do the replacement (I have done similar ones before) but would I be allowed to?0 -
If it's a replacement on an existing circuit, then yes you can. I installed one of these a couple of year back:
