Another recommendation for anyone who has not been to Abacan fabrics - it is my mums second home...fantastic - but i must resist the temptation...
also i would recommend Bedggelert to anyone who has not been - we used to spend many a weekend there before we had kids - fantastic campsite and pubs and food..... we almost moved to this area of wales but ended up in the Peaks instead...
any more recommendations for chinese or indian takaways / restaurants near Prestatyn or pubs that allow dogs?

The Can-y-Bae on the Promenade in Llandudno has recently won TripAdvisor's best bargain hotel in the UK award and is in their worldwide top ten. It's within easy walking distance of pretty much everywhere in town including attractions, restaurants and pubs. I'm not sure if they've got their own car park, if you park outside on the road you'll need to pay. I think the summer rate is £4 per day.

How can a hotel without disabled access to its reception and a first floor dining room without a lift . Does not accept children under 12 years old & charge average £90 per night win best BARGAIN hotel and be anywhere near a worldwide top ten award. ? Manipulation of trip advisors generous posting policys i think. In the words of Dragons Den "I'm out" hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -

I can't speak from experience having never stayed at the Can-y-Bae (it's only a few miles away from where I live) so I can only go by it's reputation. They've had 324 reviews on TripAdvisor to date of which 295 were rated excellent and only 3 were rated poor, the last of which was in 2009. I don't know how easy it is to manipulate TripAdvisor but it must take some doing to get such a high proportion of top scores.
They don't cater for children under 12 but that's not unheard of in Llandudno, I know of at least one guest house that doesn't take anyone under the age of 25! It's also not uncommon for hotels in Llandudno to lack disabled access and lifts as most of them are Victorian building which are expensive to modify and in many cases need special planning consent due to the draconian local bylaws (as the owners of the Oasis Hotel found out when they had the temerity to paint their hotel pastel pink).
Many years ago I spent some time working in a High Street bank which had no disabled access, not because the bank didn't want to install a ramp but because the local council wouldn't allow one to be built as it was a listed building. Twenty years later it still hasn't got disabled access so clearly the council haven't changed their stance. The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water

Well it shouldnt be best in wales or the world.
I agree completely but manipulating tripadvisor is just by excluding certain members of the community means there isnt any imput from them as You only post once you have stayed. Plus i have stayed in a morecambe hotel and asked if i would like to log onto trip advisor in the reception to give our opinion before we left and enjoy a free drink.Help you log in or open a account sir. My 3 main things i look for is does it have disabled access and take kids. And is the review for the brekkie good. Being a Joiner & builder i hate to see buildings being desicrated to allow access but there is normally a option even on mid/late 1800 victorian properties. Try getting to the bar in the Red Hot Buffet in Liverpool 1 only built 2 years ago.shocking. Can-y-bae cannot do much without local council help and funding to adapt (and councils care less that private)And the owners dont get such a good rep without being passionate about their business which is about 70% important when you get a tripadvisor review or problem.I have read "gravy was thin" & "baked beans were not heinz" If and when the inspectors go in a mark it up and down they mark it against all other places and win & lose points with extra points for other things . I have stayed in a few places in Llandudno never a bad one yet and if it was just me & mrs Greenie we dont need access & wouldnt want to hear kids crying. So i would leave a positive report too. If i had my DS & DD with us i would be leaving a report for another hotel. Not the one i couldnt get in. If that makes sense and i stand by my first sentence because of it. hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
