I am loving the suggestions of things to do in North Wales- OH has never been so we're thinking of having a silly few days away doing touristy stuff.
We're not too fussy about accomodation- but want it to be somewhere we can relax, somewhere that has some eating places within walking distance (don't mind driving, but it is nice to have at least one evening when we can share a bottle of wine!). Budget is upto £300 for the three nights. We'd consider a little cottage or something as well as B&Bs, hotels etc. (and would be less fussy about eateries in walking distance if we could self-cater).
How about Llanberis or Betws Y Coed? Both beautiful. Beddgelert too.0 -
edit.... whenever i think people visiting North Wales they are arriving via A55 (as i do) But the picture i paint is still the same... If you fancy Boarder towns Wales check out Llangollen/Chirk area some cracking drives there.
We would be travelling from Lancashire so according to google maps your assumption of the A55 is correct (my Welsh geography is pretty poor so I am a bit clueless!)
I think I will spend half a day tomorrow researching all these lovely areas and then impress OH with the options when he gets home!0 -
lots to do in the area - one of my favourite places, Snowdon - if you book the train on line you can save money especially if you get on the first train of the day, Electric Mountain 5 mins walk from the train station for the Snowdon train,
Steam railways in abundance - lovely gentle way to see the beautiful country side.
There is a fantastic tea house on Anglesey http://www.annspantry.co.uk/ me that does some fantastic food and welsh cakes to die for, also worth a visit is a Hardware store that has bargains of every description on Anglesey - hoping to go in September myself for a few days camping.
Weather not reliable but the people, the scenery more than make up for it.
good value food in Lanberis http://www.petes-eats.co.uk/static/contact_01.asp
Take your time and enjoy it.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
There is a fabulous Chinese Takeaway in Prestatyn at the top of the town. Food excellent & when I last went it was BOGOFSo we had dishes galore.
Always worth a visit is Abakhan Fabric Shop has a lovely tea room in Mostyn (if you're into fabrics of course - loads of roll bargains)Our Family Motto ~If all else fails - read the instructions...

Oooh OH will definitely be swayed by the promise of steam trains (do they ever grow up?), not sure I'd ever get him into a fabric shop though... I am excited about our holiday now! We had thought about going abroad but decided that we'd rather stay near home and in the last couple of years we've had some great UK holidays. If it rains all week we'll just have to spend a lot of time in tearooms (and it is not likely we're used to great weather in Lancashire!)0

I would go for Llandudno personally. Some good B&B's for around £25 pp. and good places to eat in the town. Great Orme is a good day out on the tram or cable car if the weather is good. Watch out for windy days if going on the cable car. A family ticket is £19 return but they will only take £17.50 single fare on the way up. Of course on the return you hand in your ticket and get the return for £1.50.Reason being if the weather turns and the cable car stops running you've only paid for one way and you are on your own to make your own arrangements to get back down!
Anglesey is handy, some good places to go such as,
Beaumaris Gaol is very interesting to look around.
Finion Mill is a working windmill and only £8 per family.
Newborough sands if the weather is good for picnics etc.
South Stack RSPB. The tower is free to go in but if you want to cross the bridge to the lighthouse its something like £7 I believe. Dont pay that just walk along the footpath behind the cafe to the RSPB tower. View is just as good from there. What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -

Can you recommend any? We've stayed in some dodgy B&Bs before (questionable cleanliness, uncomfortable, tiny rooms, rubbish showers etc.)and now won't really stay in one unless someone has recommended it as I don't think it is easy to spot the good ones online.0 -

Cheers will add that to the shortlist, the prices seem really reasonable and it is definitely much less hassle if there is free parking available (our last UK hol was in bath and it was a nightmare parking wise!)0 -
Another good thing to do is go to Ireland for the day on the fast ferry.
Porth Madog is a lovely harbour town with 2 steam railways & Portmeirion. Good hotel that welcomes dogs is The Sportsman(or am I getting Posters mixed up now? Apologies)
