I am planning a trip to America later this year and have noticed that some hotels provide a wired internet connection (ethernet I assume). How can I make my own WiFi hotspot so I can connect my Android phone?
Thanks

Take a wireless router with you, it'll need mains power though so check it can cope with US voltages and take an adaptor.0

What sort of hotels are you looking at? Almost every budget motel I stayed in 2 years ago offered free wireless.0

I use an Apple Airport Express, it's the thing you put into your router to then share printers and so on between multiple computers - but acts as a wifi router as well. When we go away on business, I usually pay for one connection at a hotel and then plug this into it and my colleagues can then log onto it and get broadband too. If you haven't already got one (or something similar) you will probably find one cheaper over there.
Good luck.____________________________________

Be very careful how you use a wifi phone in the USA.
We got a nasty surprise when we got home at the bill!0 -
Are you taking a laptop? You can use connectify (free) to create a wireless hotspot.
More and more hotels in the US have wireless as opposed to ethernet so you will probably be fine anyway.0 -

The hotel I was looking at specifically was The Point Resort Orlando, it has wireless in public areas but only wired access in the rooms, I know most hotels do now offer wireless in the rooms - but obviously not all!
Connectify looks like what I will need - although I would like to leave the laptop at home.0 -
I think they mean 3G/GPRS type data rather than Wi-Fi.
And yes it can be very expensive using the Internet/data on your phone abroad unless it is using Wi-Fi. Learnt this myself when visiting Mexico a couple of years ago.
i was quoting the HFH who said he had a nasty bill so im refering to wifi,
if it would be a hotels wifi and there was a charge then yes i can understand if a bill would be high but theres no charge if the wifi is free to use eg like what mcdonalds do in the uk0
