Tesco mobile tariff rip off ?

have i got this wrong ?
'
i'm using a tesco mobile pay as you go sim card on the 'triple your credit' tarriff.

calls are charged at 25p per minute and texts at 15p each.

if you top up £10. ( including the free credit ) you get 2 hours of talk time.

if you were to switch to the 'tesco lite' tariff calls are charged at 8p per minute

and texts at 4p each.

so if you top up £10. you'd get 2 hours and 5 mins of talk time and

for the same price be 5 mins better off ?

Are you saying that 5/120=1/24 is 'rip off'?

This is nothing compared to what the banks do, e.g. paying 0.5% to the customers that were too busy and failed to switch to 2.5-3%.
  • hi grummbler

sorry but i dont really know what that means.

its just that if the calls you make using the 'triple your credit tariff' are charged at over tripple the price of the those made using the 'lite tariff' then the 'triple your credit tariff' seems to be a bit wrong.

    all the best.
  • TESCO TRIPLE CREDIT TARIFF

Calls to Mobiles and Land Lines = 25p per min.
    Text Messages = 8p each

    £10 (+ £20 Free Credit ) = 2 hrs Talk Time or 375 Texts
    £15. (+ £30 Free Credit ) = 3 hrs Talk Time or 562.5 Texts
    £20. (+ £40 Free Credit ) = 4 hrs Talk Time or 750 Texts

    TESCO LITE TARIFF

Calls to Mobiles and Land Lines = 8p per min.
    Text Messages = 4p each

    £10. = 2 hrs 5 mins Talk Time or 125 Texts
    £15. = 3 hrs 7.5 mins Talk Time or 187.5 Texts
    £20. = 4 hrs 10 mins Talk Time or 250 Texts

if the calls you make using the 'free credit tariff' are charged at over
tripple the price of the those made using the 'lite tariff' then the 'free
credit tariff' seems to be at best an excersise in 'smoke and mirrors' and
at worst a bit of a rip off.
  • Tesco is a total rip off and there quility of service and customer services are a joke. I was with them for under a month after having many problems and decided to leave them.. I like the attraction of free credit untill i seen what was needed in order to use the free credit you must use yours first and its not applied instant....

Tesco = great, in my book. Just read and understand what you're getting in to. Same as everything else.

Perhaps you should have got your facts right before jumping ship then? Once your phone is credited with the free credit that gets used first, either until you run out, or the free credit expires (it's valid for a month) at which point you start using your paid credit.

The calls do not seem a rip off really, an extra 5 minutes is not much of a difference. However from your own numbers (which are wrong) you get 250 texts from the lite tariff and 375 for the triple credit, so you get more texts but only 5 less minutes. Its about giving a choice.

The real ripp off is the fact they do not do pro-rata on the first month or last month of your contract.

Eg signup on 15th and billing date is on the 26th, then you pay a FULL month ie £25 for just 10 days service!!! Same applies when you leave. It's all there in thier terms and conditions in the very very small print.
