Yesterday I updated my GalaxyS software through Kies and have encountered problems.
First of all my battery ran down withinn the day, it has never done this before. How can I ensure the battery lasts longer and which apps should not be running permanantly.

Secondly, the Program Running icon which was standard is no longer shown on the home page, this was a default originally, can this be restored so that at least I know what is rinning.

Most importantly I can now no longer connect to 3g for internet or emails, please please can someone help.

I know that JJEagan is usually well versed on these matters.

Who is your provider? What is the latest firmware they have provided?

I have a Galaxy S on Three, and have been waiting for the Gingerbread update from them for weeks now. Kies still updates (latest this morning) but that is a Kies update, not firmware.

I'm currently on Froyo on mine, and battery life was awful.. down to less than 24 hours with normal use. I'm running juice defender on it now, and it does seem to make a difference to battery life. Perhaps try that?

Also, if you have done a backup on Kies, you will have an option to restore when you plug the phone in. Have you tried that?

To get the Program Running icon back, if you hold down your finger on the home screen, then select widgets from the menu that pops up, it should be there, called "Program manager".

As for 3g, the only thing I can suggest is go to Asda mobiles site, and clicking on the "Picture messaging and internet settings" (Can't post links yet sorry!) and putting the "Asda mobile GPRS settings (web)" in the phone manually, if you go to Settings, wireless and networks (it may be called something slightly different), then mobile networks and select "Access Point Names", it should let you enter your own, or check the settings of one that is there to see if it's right.

As i understand their is no 2.3.3 update in the UK yet roll out started again in Nordic countries .
Probable update was Froyo 2.2.1 .

My suggestions give the phone a few days to settle down the battery usage . That fails i would back up apps and data and carry out a factory reset >>> Dial *2767*3855# should factory reset and wipe all data .
Possible Kies did not fully update so it may be worth trying the update again .

Im on three and after hours trying to get kies to work I upgraded to Gingerbread last night, have not had a chance to play around with it yet to identify any benefits, hopefully the battery will last longer......:)

I spent hours trying to update my Galaxy S to Gingerbread yesterday, the Kies screen just went Grey after i'd ticked the proceed to update the firmware key, i have no idea what to do, if i did it wrong or if it was a Kies probelm?, im on 2.2 Froyo just now, i deleted and reinstalled Kies and still the same problem arose, i was able to download one of the Kies tunes so im really not sure whats going on.

It was a nightmare trying to get the update but went smoothly when everything was in place. If you google it you will eventually find your answer. I had to download a small program to my pc which helped remove any files with 13 characters or more, usually photos from my phone. Then it was simply something like turing the phone off, connecting cable with kies open on pc, then turn the pheon on. It had to be set to kies as connection option too. I think/hope I bookmarked it on my laptop, will have a look later.........:) :j
  • Just wondered if you got this sorted. Just gone to gingerbread on my galxy s and have same battery life problem. Also cannot edit old txts now which I could do before. Is it easy to go back to froyo as I cannot see any benifits of being on gingerbread.
