MBNA application

in Credit cards
Hi everyone
Grateful for a bit of advice.
I applied online yesterday for a MBNA Platinum card as I need to do a money/super balance transfer (my Virgin 0% runs out soon). I got through the form and then it said thank you for your application we will notify you in 4-5 days.
SO today,I called up MBNA to see what was happening (I understand from previous threads that the 'underwriter' can look at the application straightaway whilst I am on phone so I dont have to wait).
the nice lady on the phone said she couldn't find my application - she said that maybe it just hadnt gone through for whatever reason like the system wasnt working properly or something.
so she suggested i apply again...
i dont know what to do -
*i dont want to do another application just like that as i dont want two credit searchs to show on file in short space of time .. so is there likely to be another reason why my application didnt show up on her system?
*even if it didnt go through to her system, is there any way of telling if a credit search was run automatically?
*is there a way i can find out asap if a credit search was run - i dont have alot of time left to apply for a card
has this happened to anyone before? does anyone have any insight into this sort of situation? obviously my main concern is the affect on credit rating etc
help anyone please?

You do know your Virgin card is run by MBNA?
Your application may have been declined on a policy rule, rather than going to 'external CRA search'0 -

hiya
yep i do know Virgin is run by MBNA but I didnt think it would make much difference. my other half has both cards as do some people on this site .... does it make a difference? have things changed recently as it has been a while since my other half got his cards...0 -
Yes it will make a difference because if they grant you another card with enough credit on it to pay off the Virgin card they will be increasing their risk considerably. You will have twice as much credit available, either in a loan or available to spend.
Also, what's in it for them? Transferring a 0% balance from themselves to themselves? Just the 3% transfer fee.0 -

But I can't see them granting a second card, especially since the other has 0% on it and the OP may only have been making minimum payments for the last x months?0 -
okay - i totally understand the points above. . . a rejection because of the above reasons I will take
the problem i have now though is that i havent been 'rejected' yet as they don't even seem to have my application - though it seemed to have gone through all okay online.
so if i apply again and there are now TWO credit searches in a short space of time, this will affect future applications (for whichever card/company) right?
so how do i know, is there any way of knowing, what actually happened?0 -
Call customer loyalty on 0800 783 1116.
It may well be that because you already have an account with a 0% offer, and with a balance on it, you're automatically declined meaning a credit search is not made (the so-called 'policy rule' I mentioned above) and a letter is on it's way to you.
You could check your CRA files to see if a search has been made, but that'll cost you £4 for the 2 main ones.
Why MBNA anyway? Why not another provider?0 -
just a thought ..... sorry for all these questions btw!....
IF i can check relatively quickly whether a credit search was done or not and it wasnt ... given the above posts re possibility of rejection due to having virgin card already, what other cards should/can I apply for?
I have about £3k on the virgin to pay off one way or another by July.
IF MBNA have already done a check and for some reason the application is just not showing on their system THEN is it more advisable to do another application for MBNA as I can explain the situation to them easier? or not?

our posts crossed so missed this one.
right. call customer loyalty and ask them if i have been automatically rejected (w/out credit search) as i have virgin card already. i will do that.
how long will CRA file take?
what choice of other providers do i have?

sorry - one more question, how do i find out which of those cards (BT/Amazon etc) are from the MBNA stable (without trawling through their websites one by one?)
is the Nationwide card relatively easy to get?
I dont have 'excellent' credit ... just 1 virgin card opened 16 months ago and prior to that i had no credit for a very long time.0
