Just a heads up, whenever you use notes and expect a large amount of change, make sure you check you get the right amount.

I find every so often they enter different note amount you gave them on their till, and give you the wrong change. Then pocket the £5 or £10 for themselves.

Or possibly they have just made an error and their balance will be up at the end of the day.. mistakes can happen without accusing everyone that does make an error of being a thief.

Doesn't happen to me. Perhaps you look like a mug so all these thieving supermarket cashiers are inclined to look upon you as an easy target. :)

Ive never witnessed anyone who pocketed notes and ive worked with cashiers, been served by them and seen cashiers erve people. I have seen customers rant at being given chnage from a £10 when tehy thought they gave £20 but it was a £10.

There are no doubt the odd 1 or 2 who think they cant get caught as they are too sly but they end up getting caught. Theres cctv coverign the tills which is there for the CO and the customers protection.
  • From experience, and i've worked on Supermarket checkouts you're often far to busy to worry about pocketing the odd £1 or 50p here.
The people that do this are obviously far more clever than me!.

Saying that though I have been accused of taking money, but only in a reference to a new employer!. I was never questioned about it whilst in a job, and that was one VERY BIG supermarket that done this.
To say that I threatned court action for defamication of character, is certainly what I done!

Cashiers are watched closely for things like this so don't tar everyone with the same thing you seem to have spotted once or twice! If you genuinely believe this is the case REPORT THEM TO THEIR MANAGEMENT (with a time and date - easier to check the CCTV then as well). All cashiers are fed up with allegations like this so if you DO spot it then report it and hopefully the people responsible will be removed if it shows as a pattern and not an isolated incident.

Its generally a good idea to check your change and receipt before leaving the till anyway ... but don't accuse hard working people of theft for what might have been a mistake! (The other thing is ensure you get your Cashback - its something that can be easy to forget to give people because its not usual to give people money when they've paid by card!)

People in almost every job have the opportunity to steal/commit fraud why single out supermarket employees?

my sister works for a very large supermarket on the counter and the uniform they are issued with (trousers, tops etc) do not have pockets in them so nowhere to hide anything.besides as another has said cameras watch each till and they are usually far too busy to chance pocketing anything.

I had a woman accuse me of this when I worked till.

My till had to be taken off and counted up, no errors found.
The woman was all huffy saying she couldn't hang around whilst that happened and demanding the money now (area manager was in and he refused to budge).
In the end she said she'd be back later for the money, guess what she never returned.

    Two sides to every story.

Hah! I wish they'd made her stay and wait for the till to be counted up! Would have loved to see her face.

The OP hasn't suggeted anything like that.Taking the argument to this extreme conclusion is as fatuous as saying there are and have never been any dishonest tillies.
Most are honest - some are not. Check your change!
