    New tyre, no questions.

Perhaps there should be a poverty threshold below which people are just banned from owning cars.

Where on the tyre is the puncture?
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

Last time I heard the word "inner-tube" I had my BMX upside down with the wheel off and a bowl of water ready to look for bubbles!

Take it to a smaller independent tyre place, don't use Kwik-Fit. Far too many horror stories about people going in for a new tyre and coming out with half their car replaced. ;)

To be fair, KwikFit will point out to the OP all the other things which need urgently fixing:

    Brakes
    Shock absorbers
    4/5 new tyres
Exhaust with catalytic converter (no sense in doing half a job;))
Then we have the possibility of a full service, where the replaced items will be a bit grubby, so that they blend in with the rest of the car.

    Repair or replace?

Well it depends on what sort of damage has been done, what sort of tyre, what sort of car its sitting on.

If its just a simple puncture within the tread area and there is no sidewall perforation/damage,the tyre still has good tread on it and it lives on a run of the mill car that just does normal speeds and motoring then have a professional repair done on it.

There is no issue with this being done.
Try national tyres or similar..not kwik fit.

If its some expensive low profile tyre on some road going sports car and you drive fast up and down the motorway all day..get a new tyre.

    Top advice, this.

Punctures can be repaired perfectly safely, depending upon where on the tyre the puncture actually is. Any reputable tyre fitter will be able to have a look and tell you whether it's ( legally ) repairable or not. If the tyre is almost at the end of it's life anyway, then it's probably not worth it, just get a new one. And as has been pointed out, it would be a different matter if it was a Ferrari doing 150mph :)

And what will force any customer to have these done?
