Hi guys - first time I've opened my laptop today :j :j
I was at the home visiting Mam most of the day, well from 11.30 am to 6.30 pm, with an hour break to get weighed at slimming class, and then I went to my sisters for my dinner - yum yum - and then sat chatting, before walking 'home' round the corner, getting home at 9.15 pm
They were supposed to move Mam back to her old room this afternoon, after the door was fixed, and when one of us, me, was there, but when I got there this morning, the nurse said Mam had already been moved as they decided to do it as she showered. They took her on the trolley from her room to give her a shower, and while she was in the shower-room they moved her things over, and they just brought her back to the old room instead, so as for the least disruption and confusion for her
So, I gets in to see her and she was a little distressed and had pulled the quilt over to one side, but soon settled down, after asking me if I'd been in that room before so that I knew where to find her, so she did know she had been moved, but didn't seem very distressed by it. I checked if all her belongings had been moved over and couldn't find her teeth/shower gel/etc in bathroom though later located under something else and, when checking in her wardrobe, realised that the room door was held open by a clothes hanger hooked around the wardrode door. So much for fixing the door  And so much for Health and Safety Regs - these units on the bottom of the fire doors hold the doors open but, int eh case of a fire, they release the catch and the doors close automatically to protect the occupant. At the meeting I went to a few weeks ago, they had stressed that doors with faulty fire-stops should never be propped open by chairs or hooked back with hangers or the link as, if there was a fire, the door would remain open and the occupant would in at great danger - so here they are, hooking the door back with a coathanger
I went to query this and was told that the door-stop was fixed by the handyman in the morning, but, when wheeling her in on the trolley after her shower and getting into bed, it had been triggered and the door had closed. when they had settled her and opened the door, the fire-stop would not catch to hold the door back. The handyman had gone on a course by this time, so they were waiting for him to return to fix it again. When I asked a little later if he was back yet, I was told he should be back very soon. I normally would have left about 1.30 pm but stayed to make sure that the door got fixed as I did not want to leave her in the room with this situation of the faulty firedoor. After another hour, I went direct to the main office instead of asking again on the unit, and the office secretary rang to locate the handyman and ask him to come upstairs immediately. I explained the situation of the firedoor being hooked back with the hanger, and she looked very concerned, saying 'that's not very good is it?'
15 minutes later the handyman turned up and looked at the unit, with some puzzlement as he had to fix these so many times, so I told him to just change the unit from her last room as that was working, which is what he did, and that did the trick
Shortly afterwards the fire alarm went for a fire drill, I assumed, and the door closed as it should. I waited for the alarm to finish, opened the door, and then sat for another 10 minutes before I left to make sure the alarm had not disturbed Mam. AS I left, the staff were mostly in the foyer, which was obviously where they were supposed to report to, and they were each signing their name in a book, to make sure they were all there I suppose. As I got there, and remembering that the alarm had gone some 10-15 mins earlier, one of the carers was just arriving and someone asked her where **** was, to which she replied 'I don't know'. I then heard someone say "I suppose we are supposed to check the residents now?" which didn't sound very good to me - it sounded as if they didn't normally take these drills seriously.   :mad:Watching all this was the new manager and she did not look very impressed with the way the drill had gone - and I wasn't either - so hopefully, she will ensure that further drills are held to remind them of what they should do, etc in the case of fire alarm going off
Another worrying episode in the life of the care home/NHS in which we place our trust
The good news today?? Finally back on plan and lost 3 1/2 pounds this week, and Mr 3Dogs lost 2 1/2 despite him going to a wedding on Friday and being rather worse for wear on Saturday

Mam was fine when I went down - watching the tv and smiling, ate her dinner and pud, had a cuppa and 3 dunked biccies, then had her meds/nebuliser and she had a few white chocolate buttons before I left. She is very lucid at the moment and calmer, so lets hope she stays that way for a while at least
Off to bed soon, so night night folks
