    The Sally Cowdry quote is way out of date, try this one

    http://blog.o2.co.uk/home/2010/06/offering-fair-and-transparent-access-to-mobile-data.html

    O2's CEO in June 2010 saying why Unlimited isn't unlimited.

    FUP have always been in place but only recently have they become better defined and rigerously enforced.

    If you read the comments below this article and the responses from o2 then you will see that those on the unlimited uncapped, non FUP tarrif will remain on the that tariff for as long as they keep their contract going.

    gjchester is correct.

    There's always been a Fair Usage Policy, there's capped tariffs and there's the unlimited tariffs with a fair usage policy so nothing's changed.

    For example here's the O2 website back on June 24th 2009, they're offering unlimited data, but scroll to the bottom and see
    Unlimited
    Excessive usage policy applies
    See the Old T&Cs dated February 2009;
    Included Unlimited Wi-Fi and Web Bolt Ons for iPhone Customers only
    The Unlimited Wi-Fi and Web Bolt On is included at no extra cost for customers connecting or upgrading to any iPhone tariff until further notice. O2 reserves the right to withdraw or amend this offer at any time on reasonable notice. Participating customers will receive 30 days notice via text message if changes are made to their disadvantage. Excessive usage policy applies see Data Bolt Ons terms below.
    <snip>
    Data Bolt On Terms
    The Web Bolt On allows you unlimited use of Telef?nica O2 UK Limited‘s Edge/GPRS/ 3G networks (as applicable to your handset), for personal internet use via your mobile phone. All usage must be for your private, personal and non-commercial purposes. You may not use your SIM Card:
    in, or connected to, any other device including modems;
    to allow the continuous streaming of any audio / video content, enable Voice over Internet (Voip), P2P or file sharing; or
    in such a way that adversely impacts the service to other O2 customers.
    If O2 reasonably suspects you are not acting in accordance with this policy O2 reserves the right to impose further charges, impose network protection controls which may reduce your speed of transmission, remove the Web Bolt On from your account or disconnect your tariff at any time, having attempted to contact you first.

    They should be challenged on using the term Unlimited, if you get 50mb data they should bloody well say so.
    they are taking the proverbial and the ASA is a busted flush thats had a few too many free diners.

    The poster in question used 800 megabytes in one go, not 50.
    They stopped using the term unlimited when it comes to data around a year ago and the ASA has allowed it anyway.

    Sally Cowdry, marketing director at O2 UK seemed to disagree way back in 2007.

    Their is NO such thing as Unlimited, everything has a limit.

    tell me where you can get and unlimited HHD?
    tell me where you can get an unlimited milk carton?
    tell me where you can get an unlimited fuel tank?

    i bet your answer will be YOU CANT get these.

    Every example you have quoted is for a physical item.
    Data has no physical presence - therefore your argument and analogies hold absolutely no water whatsoever.

    People bought into contracts, taking the phone companies at their word - however, the phone companies have redefined the word "unlimited" to suit their own purposes - and the ASA has allowed them to get away with it.

    Would you be arguing if you signed up to a contract with a power supplier that offered "unlimited electricity" for £30 per month, only to find that it was subject to an FUP of 500kw per month?

    A majority of people that come to these "phone" boards know that the phone companies have managed to get away with saying something that they should never have been allowed to say, so I'm not sure why you're trying to flame a situation that a lot of people are very annoyed about?:(

    Yeah, easyhost, you obviously don't understand basic logic and clearly have no clue what you're talking about. There are at least 2 unlimited data offers and I'm looking for more.

    Okay, so there may have been a brief period where there was no FUP, but this thread's regarding a Q110 tariff with the £5 unlimited web & wifi bolt-on added which the FUP does and always has applied for.

    Don't have time to look up the 2007 T&C, but if there's no FUP there will be a clause allowing O2 to change things with 30 days notice so the few people on these T&C will either have 30 days notice before FUP comes into play or no FUP.

    Don't see the big deal about FUP anyway, you're warned and you're not charged anything.
