However you decide to do it, don't forget to tell your insurance company. They will probably want to take some more money off you.

Mine did, so I didn't bother with the tint.

    Of course it's true.

You can tint any of the windows as much as you like, except for the windscreen and front side windows which you can't tint as much as you like.

    Makes perfect sense. :)

That's why I wrote "Not quite true." ;)
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

But it was true. Either it is true or isn't. ;)

One important point to remember is that to ensure that your insurance isn't invalidated, you must tell your insurance company when you get the tinting done.

It may not increase your premium, but if you have an accident and they find out, there is a very good chance that they would refuse to pay out.

Thanks for the advice on the tinting.

These though, stick on with statick or something, it's not like that film stuff so it comes off. Does that still count as a modification or as a sun blind? Do you have to tell them if using sunblinds too?

I get so confused. We have tints on the new car (was not factory standard), I declared it but they said it did not count as a modification (same ins company so may be the same answer).

It depends on your insurer. Some insurers will charge more some won't. It does also depend on your risk profile. A 40 something driver with no claims, wife, good professional job is often unlikely to be charged extra. A 17 year old may be more likely to be charged.

Some insurers such as the notorious Admiral Group will charge an additional premium for anything and everything and then invoke their infamous Standard Parts Replacement Clause - so if one tinted window gets smashed, they reserve the right to put only standard clear glass back in, despite you paying extra to cover the tints.

Generally speaking, if you get charged for minor modifications then you are more often than not using a Cheapo Charlie insurer who makes their money from extra charges.

Id be interested if you found a cheaper way of doing it, I've been hunting round for that type of solar film for my conservatory roof for some time and its bloomin' expensive.

Is that expensive then pullip? I thought it was 1m x 2m nad I thought I'd get away with 2 packs for the back windows. That was cheaper than the made to measure sunshades which are £80 on eBay.

LMAO never thought of that ;)

Something like fablon would do, I'm considering sellotaping wallpaper up there for the summer :o

Either way with a 9ftx9ft roof the proper solar stuff is way out of my league.
